i've looked for design jobs in Philly for a considerable amount of time and I had no luck...that's why im in sunny florida :)
i think Philly has so many students graduating from all the colleges, that its such a competition to get a decent design job with a decent company...

I agree, but damn - there's gotta be something out there - there is 160over90 - which is definitely puttin out some amazing work. but are they the only ones in there?
You'd think with all the restaurants, bars, clubs, etc... there would be a lot more opportunities for designers to work....

talk to Rand, he is in control of Philly.

theirs jobs for designers to be waiters, bus boys, and valets. I've talked to a few people that graduated with me last year and their still trying to find a decent first job. Everyone in Philly wants experience, but no one is willing to give the young designers a chance to get some.

(Jan 24 06, 06:56)that's pretty much everywhere man. take your licks as a youngster, improve your process and eventually land something nice. not that I'm something special whatsoever.. hehe

good idea fr0st. hey FLA can't be too bad right?
- a_brigade0
Takin your licks ... so to speak, blows. Especially when its for people who drop the line "it'll be a great porttfolio piece" as justificiation for not paying you rightfully so...
But I guess it is essential in the world...
- fr0st0
FLA is NOT the new design mecca at all! Their is hardly a design community out here ( a good one )
I really cant complain cuz its always around 70, no snow, spanish women everywhere & yeah spanish women everywhere!

well, the fact that there isn't a large design community can be good and bad. I live in PBurgh and there is a limited pool of talent here too. Which actually helps me. strange.

There's just not that many places in philly. I mean look at the number of job postings for NYC or LA on here. Now I know there's like a hundred times as many people applying to those cities as well, but you're bound to land SOMETHING even with the increased competition.
but Philly there's what - a handful of places. If they all turn you down you really don't have many options.

i'll admit there aren't many studios here... I think Philly's geography is partly to blame. Its too close to NYC for studios to stick around.
Most of the people that I know that work out of here work for themselves.

isn't razorfish still hiring like mad in their philly office?
20nine is hiring:
http://www.20nine.com/careers.as…might still be:
http://www.brownsteingroup.com/some NTer works here:
http://www.stickandmove.com/
(don't know if they are hiring or not)
- StratusGD0
Actually, I'm the one at Stick & Move. We're not hiring at the moment, but you never know.
I think the problem with Philly is that there's alot of smaller places that are hard to find... and alot of what's here is centered on pharmacuetical stuff.
There's also the 'Philly Mentality' that no Philly agency gets the respect that an NYC agency gets, that all of your young creatives will leave for NYC at the first shot, and that life begins and ends with Philly award shows.
(Ok, Flame on!)
