those who have experience designing full stationary suites for orgs/corps/ect- what are thoughts for the typeface size for general letterhead body copy?
Faces considered:
- Helvetica Neue Light
- Swiss 721 BT Roman
- Univers 45 LightI am thinking 10px for each, but interested to see if this should be dropped down.
Discuss.

px? i'm doing it for my company right now. 8pt body copy.
BTW Swiss and Helvetica are essentially the same face.

9/13 pt. should work for those typefaces, or 10/13.5, max.
My resume is 9/13 pt. Thesis, never had any compaints abot legibility.

nice faces. as for size, no PX use PT - now what point size are you thinking?
I usually specify 10-12 pt type.

8/10

rand's got it.

i like 9 pt
but i'm superstitious about even-number sizes.
and its pts in print, not px ;)

Anywhere between 8 & 10 pt. should work. 11 or 12 pt. would be too big for Helvetica. Just my 2 cents.

thank you one and all.
the 'px' was definitly a typo- i would kick my own ass if i sent this away in px.
8/10 it is.

I have to say I am not a fan of helvetica/swiss in print. there are a billion sans serifs that look great and have some life to them, comparatively.
Scala Sans
Din
gotham
etc. etc.More than 10 pts is suicide unless your cllient is over 70.

DIN for body copy in articles is death though man....
LOVE it for web screen, but it just doesn't do it for me page after page.
- gramme0
try 8/10 as well as 8/11. See which paragraph has better color.

9

the only reason i said 12 is because some of my clients are old. always complaining about "it's too small"

9/11 or 9/12

an alternative to the helvetica/swiss could be ff bau, folio, or chalet book. if you are doing a corporate communications package, i'd find a family with a ton of weights and styles. we are in the middle of a rebrand at my company and are using gotham for everything now.

depends if it's all caps too, but 10 is pretty big - I'd go 9 or 8

Helv. neue is a nice big family, bit on the sterile side...though if they're all about precision, could be a nice choice
I had to make friends w/Helvetica at my last job, wan't so bad...

nice suggestion johndiggity. this is a complete package for a progressive group in DC actually. they want something definitly crisp and clean but w/ a broad range in the family.
i like the folio suggestion and ff bau for sure. it might also get down to cost for the family for the whole thing. we will see.
