Yes, to an extent. But he wasn't really taken very seriously anywhere. And I don't recall him representing radical Islam, unless of course you are talking about him visiting some east london mosques.
He only became transnational when the Americans made the mistake of trying to make an example out of him. If they had left it alone, hardly anyone would remember his name by now.

Around the world Galloway always pops up in all the "right" places whether it's Porto Alegre or Damascus. He is more well known and connected than you let on.

The Americans did make a mistake in giving him some unnecessary publicity but I think we underestimate creepy, little demagogues like him at our peril...particularly in the present political climate.
