so we're redesigning a website for a client of ours, and their entire site is built using .aspx. 90% is straight informational content, and our new design/approach doesn't include a CMS. But their IT guys want us to rebuild the entire site in .aspx 'for consistency' with the couiple of pages that work back into a database... is this crazy?

yes it is. If there's not dynamic content of any kind on the page, it's actually slightly worse for performance.
on the plus side, you should just be able to rename the html pages with an aspx extension.

yeah I thought so... we're doing a straight rebuild in DMWV, but my other question was how easily you could switch an .aspx file to .html format. (looks like you answered it - thanks!)
as for 'performance', what are the downsides (so I can make a case)?
thx

it probably wouldn't be noticable, but the web server would try to process any code in the aspx file before serving it.
with HTML, it would just serve it, no questions asked.

It's a good idea if there are future plans to add .NET functions.

thanks – I love how my half-assed knowledge of web development is still good enough for my boss to start pitching web projects for our ad agency... then I come on here and you all help me sound like I know what I'm doing!
yay PVN!

it's not crazy if they have some sort of WIKI or dB that works specifically with .aspx

yeah they've got a db running for one small section of their site (a password protected support/download area), and I was planning on leaving that section as is – maybe just a bit of graphic revisions
