I'm redoing my resume and thinking of using bodoni for the description text and a sans something for headline text. I know bodoni can be hard to read in larger texts but do you think it is ok for a resume? hhmm?

sure, I supposed it's fine, though because of it's high contrast I think it works better in headlines than text. Though I have seen entire novels set in Bodoni. If you want something with a little more personality, Filosofia works well.
For your sans, I'd recommend an American Gothic like Franklin, Trade, or Benton.
The paragraph text in a designer's resume should never be more than 10 pt. MAX.

walbaum might be an interesting alternative to bodoni

Bodoni is a fantastic display font. Not so great as a text font. I've also been in a Bembo phase for a while. Lots of good weights there too.

If you feel like forking out the dough, Fedra Sans & Fedra Serif are some of the hawtest fonts I've ever seen. Very flexible.

The fedra family is probably my favourite type family, I second that sugestion.
I too have found Bodoni a little annoying to read at text sizes, but if you like a little contrast perhaps consider something like Baskerville.

wow. yes, fedra is nice. I'm drooling.

Bodoni is an awesome font!!! Don't be afraid to use it. It's supposed to be a body text font. There are different versions of it, some with a less contrasting thick and thin stroke. You should investigate it further before feeling like you should use an alternate font.

If you're going to use Bodoni for text, use ITC Bodoni which was based directly on the metal sizes.
