I'm sick on the couch, watching CSPAN for three days straight.. I have never seen a bigger group of chumps, as most of the Republican senators. Also, the traditional media spin is quite amusing as well. Anybody have any thoughts as to why our government sucks so hard?

i've concluded that nobody really cares anymore. sad but true.

politicians are rarely the best and the brightest

he's a g*ddamn liar. he lied to the senat about recusing himself in future cases - he's lieing about "keeping an open mind" about roe vs. wade - and most definitely lieing about the CAP business - which will lead to his demise (you heard it hear first).

yeah, ain't that the truth.. bunch of spineless idiots.. the only people with a spine was kennedy and schumer.. everyone else was doing a disservice to this 'great nation.. the dems need to grow a big fucking pair..
- designbum0
man, i hope so, spk.. if he gets the confirmation, we're heading straight back to the middle ages..

designbum...what's the deal with Kennedy and someone else getting into a shouting match? Did you see anything like that?
- designbum0
yeah, holy shit that was awesome! fuckin spector was claiming that kennedy never contacted him, and kennedy called bullshit on that.. apparently spector reffers to emails as 'computer letters!' what a tool.. this link has the clip, i think: http://thinkprogress.org/2006/01…

I wish, that people would vote on teh issues at hand, rather than the party line...
- uberdesigner0
wedge issues or issues that actually matter?
- designbum0
well, ideally any issue that would be important to the average american, not just a few nutjobs..
- uberdesigner0
the issues that actually matter are mirrored across the board, bought and paid for by corporate interests

(Jan 11 06, 16:24)it's little cases like that that add up to higher court decisions.
at the same moment it registers for select service

i dunno, man, the issue isn't whether you're for or against abortion, it's having someone who will tip the balance on the supreme court come clean about an issue.. the only reason he is a bush nominated candidate is BECAUSE he is anti abortion.. why the 'moral' party won't admit this is beyond me.. i mean, if it's something they desperately believe, they should be proud of their values, not hiding behind some party spin..

alito is quite the corporatist as well. This has well more to do with that than any roe vs. wade thing.
Think about this, abortion is quite possibly the biggest wedge issue there is. Why would the republicans blow their whole wad on one issue, when they can continue to use it to divide people and get what they want by using it?
- uberdesigner0
they have to pay the piper, they've been stringing along the religious right for so long that it's time for them to cough something up
- designbum0
yeah, no doubt.. at the core of the abortion issue, though, is the question of a constitutional right to privacy.. that's where dems can stick it to the repubs.. and the right to choose is not really a wedge issue.. there's tons of conservatives who also favor woman's rights.. it's just spun as one..

wait until after they overturn roe, when they try to pass laws making it illegal for women to go to canada for abortions. they'll somehow tie it in with anti-sex tourism legislation.
