Curious about certain skills some of you have developed in your work (more under an employer rather than freelance) that you may not have initially been doing or known you had talent/skills in - specifically those that others you work with saw as an asset to the company.
What are you doing that you either hadn't considered before, or didn't realize you have such strengths in?

You son of a bastard.
I swear to Christ when I wrote that post the first thing I thought was:
Kona is going to post something about a bowstaff or hobo killing.
Nice. Real nice.

haha.
actually my friend. i'm using my skills of patience more than anything else. it's like that monster commercial with the guy who works with the monkeys. that is my 9 - 5 job. and even most of my freelance.
i'm really fine tuning my patience skills.
that and a bit of backend development shit that i'll prolly never use outside of this corporate conglomerate of a company.

I've learned how to hide the fact that I've been crying in the men's room, generally after my ten minute break in the afternoons/
Oh, and I've become adept at sweet talking cam girls while not drawing the suspicions of my superior officers. The secret? Bribe the IT guy with chronic so he doesn't report my browsing habits. Well, that and let him win in ping pong every so often.

also. my wizardry skills.

I've learned to accept that I have none. I'm a one trick pony...

For myself, I'm writing alot more, copywriting, rewriting what the firm says about itself, etc. It's become a much larger part of my work going into 2006.
I always enjoyed that part of studying Advertising as much as I did creative graphic work. Plus, much of our stuff needs a major overhaul for the first time in six years, so nice to be seen as somewhat of an expert on what we're writing about ourselves in an office full of attorneys that usually don't budge much.

letting the tears roll--making no attempt to staunch or hide them--makes one irresistable to strangers

I am learning that my new skill is an irrepressable rage akin to the hulk and hate so deep and imovable that satan himself would barr from entering his realm for fear of my giving him a proper roasting.

This is sort of a gripe at the same time, but I find I'm doing editorial/copyrighting a lot more. It's o.k. though it helps inform the design process.
- mg330
I was also doing tons of CSS/XHTML work earlier this year (until our site redesign and redevelopment project got given to a consultant instead of me) and certainly learned lots of new things with CSS.

I'm posting with much greater accuracy and wind resistence...

I'm also now reading at a grade 6 level...

i've learned to zip up my pants at all times.

"though it helps inform the design process."
Kind of same thing here. I've been pushing for our ads to have more copy. We're in this major transition with marketing right now (my department) to go from looking like we just opened the doors (six years ago, ahem) to showing what we've done, our reputation, etc.
I've become much more of good eye for fluff and how we can cut it out of our materials.
- tkmeister0
actually, i am gonna be serious for a moment.
i've learned to talk about the branding and understand the marketing aspect in the business. Also, how to communicate when taking any online initiatives and how to address some of the business issues.
you can simply call that bullshit too.
i think it's really important to close the gap between the marketing and the creative.

collecting money.
don't fuck with me or i will put a lean on your house. a very quick and effective way to keep the high price of lawyers out of the picture.

I'm learning CSS and HTML and loving it.
