I can't even tell them apart anymore..althouigh I have to say the Guitar Player was looking like ass for a while, but the new design rocks..real nice, real clean and real distinctive.

Yeah, I was a GP subscriper back in da day. But I was always jealous of all the choice tab transcriptions in GFTPM.

I got GP and GFTPM religiously back in teh day...haven't even picked one up for years and years

Odd sidebar:
I'm pretty sure it was an issue of Guitar World with Reb Beach, Richie Kotze, and Nuno Bettencourt on the cover. Inside was an Ibanez ad with a smokin hot girl. I do believe that is my earliest memory of pre-pubescent "tingling" in the trousers.
Funny how we remember these things.

I think it was Nuno, not the chick...
Have you heard Nunos new band? Dramagods?
pretty damn good...

Not sure about you yanks but I have subscibed to Gutar Techiniques for a few years. It's awesome. It comes with a cd every month with some great lessons and backing tracks. All for £5. The writers are the best in the UK. There is no gear articles just purely how to play better in every style. There is always (ie every issue) lessons on: Rock, acoustic, blues, jazz, fingerstly, country, funk, techniques (eg picking) and theory. It's helped me to become a well rounded player.
Last month's issue had a dvd instead of a cd with interviews and lessons from people like Paul Gilbert and Mike Stern.
There are always guys from the US writing in to say how much better it is than the US magazine (which I have sometimes bought here and generally suck). You can get GT in Borders and Barnes & Noble.
But the main reason to buy it is because you get to be taught by the legend that is Guthrie:

He's taught me in person and he's the best teacher I've ever had.
Check out some more of him on google. His solo album comes out soon!

(Jan 9 06, 08:57)I'll have to look into that. I was wondering what became of him.

Baskerville - dude thopse UK guitar magazines rock..they're like $15 by the time I can find them here in NY..but really well designed and great info..
However, the best is the Japanese guitar magazines...holy crap..I mean not only transcriptions but like frame by frame photos of each hand position, detailed questions of the artist lik e"Well, you had cornflakes that morning, did that effect your mood for the solo? What type of batteries do you use in the effects pedals?"
I mean it's insane...

Once in a blue moon I pick one up for a humbling photo of a longhair noodling up and down the neck.

Insane shredding:

Impressive but even I can't stand listening to this for more than 5 seconds..

For my money, Guitar Player is the best of the bunch. Not as much TAB as the others, but more diversity in terms of genre, plus no pictures of Zak Wylde.
GUITAR TECHNIQUES is great too, if you can afford it. Close to $20 here in the big smoke...

"...plus no pictures of Zak Wylde."
I know what happened to him. Does he wear those big lether arm bracelet thingies like all the freakin time? He used to be a pretty boy and then he became like a backup dude in a ZZ Top video.
