So basically i have a couple job choices.
in Denver, or NYC ( both companies are paying for me to fly out to interview next week) .. still waiting on a possibility still here in LA. but which would you choose?Personally think NYC firm has more potential, but it involves higher cost of living + life in NYC.
what would you choose

think about what both firms will lead you in the furture
depending on role and your career objective.
if your preference is lifestyle, than judge the job and your future by how much you could handle in terms of relative conditions

I'd blow Denver like the wind and head to NYC

I would throw some chaf in the air and follow the wind

I'd love to work in nyc; the parents aren't so happy about it.. i'm frm DC originally. the company in nyc is def more along the lines of what i want to do in the future.... but it seems so darn expensive. would about 40K be enough to survive in the city?

I 've been posting on their for along time, but no not a mod

to mo:
go for the best position;if you feel its ny, just go for it.

40K in NYC. That's really pushing it. You wouldn't be able to afford very much in Manhattan, unless you plan on bunking with someone in a small effeciency, etc. Also cost of living has gone up there. Stick to Denver.

nyc is best. 40K ur getting raped tho...ask for more if ur any good.

40k is going to be tough in NYC, even in LA. the upside to NY is the fact that you don't need a car at all...
if you have clients + time to freelance, it could totally be doable. live in brooklyn on the cheap.

btw, i don't get how american pay works.
in euros i make 12000 euros net/year( oh yeah i'm getting fucked in the anus).
i'm also conisdering moving to another country..graphic designer get peanuts payed here in belgium...

denver vs nyc is a tough comparison. depends whether you like the east or the west...they are quite different.
i really like nyc but wouldn't be caught dead living there, especially since making 40k there is like making 25k in many other large cities. obvious exceptions such as san fran etc are a given.
jazx, have you lived either in nyc or denver?
- jpolk0
@ tank, is antwerp really cheap? how much is rent? you really could only pay rent in a major US city on that...
- mographed0
also i haven't been to denver in a very very long time. my aunt made a point that i could possibly not like the city ...
the nyc one is def. on the junior level side

if you like outdoor lifestyle go CO... if you like the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle go with NYC.
- -sputnik-0
all i can say is that i've traveled quite a bit around the US and other countries, and i find denver to be a pretty chill place to live. keep in mind that if you don't like the outdoors, there are probably places with better features for you.
it all comes down to personality and what you look for. i don't think anyone can say nyc is better than san fran, denver, chicago...it all depends on what vibe you're looking for.

its getting frustrated actually..the input i do there on diverse fields at work is huge if i say so myself..
i know after effects, final cut pro, modo, flash, the whole creative suite..
besides that i'm in charge of the maintenance of the cpu's...i'm an overall good designer, i brought in other quality people, won good clients..still they say there is no money..bastards..its like that in belgium...
we are treated like dirt..i'm gonna quit there...for sure;sorry to hijack your thread mo...

the position in nyc may be worth the poverty, though. keep that in mind.

(Jan 4 06, 15:54)been to Denver four times, lived in NYC for 3.5 years, both Queens and UES. Plus know plenty of PBurghers that have returned from Colorado. That's saying something.
