Do a flash menu with a transparent background. That would only be one file and you could set it to load the menu options with and external text or xml file.

hey stew I'm trying to work with the same menu right now... got a question... are you linking the css and the javascript externally? I kept running into winxp svrpack2 activex message that stopped it from working. I had to place both the css and js in my file and it's getting pretty large now. Did you run into this at all?
- s_t_e_w0
no because i'm on a mac.
;)no seriously, i think i've read something about that.
let's check my bookmarks.o here it is.
you're probably using a .htc fix?
"When Service Pack 2 is installed on Windows, the proprietary .htc file will only work in IE6 when correctly served with the mime type text/x-component."

Putting your main nav in a Javascript might hinder search engines (they might ignore it, and therefore possibly miss some pages on your site). Includes are better.

good link. no, definetly not using the htc file. It's based on the suckerfish drop down. Looked great on my machine at work and the test machines but when I got home I kept getting that stupid little yellow bar that says...
"To help protect your security,Internet Explorer has restricted from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for more options..."
That's the only thing stopping me from linking it externally...
Thanks for the help though.

Dreamweaver lets you create libraries for stuff like that.

strangé.
when i tested my version it worked nicely on pc too.
no problemo.do you have something online somewhere so i can see what you're doing?

ummm.... do an ssi include... almost every server now allows it
include it in a comment tag then put
#include virtual="/footer.html"

s_t_e_w, I put up an example here temporarily.

how does it look on your end anyway? I've really only had limited testing for mac and just about given up for opera...

will div or iframe work?
dynamically loading the nav into each doc?
- poomoo0
iFrames... but convert to a server side language asap
- determinedmoth0
Why no PHP? It's pretty common.
What sort of menu?
You could just use an iFrame to call the 1 file..
- s_t_e_w0
"dynamically loading the nav into each doc"
without serverside scripting?i'll also check the iframe option.
- s_t_e_w0
"but convert to a server side language asap"
hell. i'm a designer, not a programmer. what is me doin here anyways.
- mrdobolina0
insert a layer in Dreamweaver.
src="nav.html" or whatever the menu is.
- s_t_e_w0
haha mrdobolina.
thanks.
- mrdobolina0
hope that helped.
- s_t_e_w0
oh wait a minute.
i need the menu to be transparent because a right aligned background image.
so i have to stick with the javascript link that writes the lines of html in a div on all the pages.
some more thoughts on this?
- determinedmoth0
javascript is a bit prehistoric for me... sorry.
Why no PHP?
