Sufjan Stevens as #1 was *really* predictable. Couldn't listen to the damn CD once the whole way through.
Here's mine (not that any of you bastards care):
1. Lucksmiths - Warmer Corners (Matinée)
2. Acid House Kings - Sing Along with Acid House Kings
(Labrador)
3. Pernice Brothers - Discover a Lovelier You (Ashmont)
4. Death Cab for Cutie – Plans (Atlantic)
5. The Decemberists – Picaresque (Kill Rock Stars)
6. Matt Pond PA - Several Arrows Later
7. Mobius Band - City vs. Country EP (Ghostly Int'l)
8. Dirty On Purpose - Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow
(North Street Records)
9. Fingers Cut Megamachine - Fingers Cut Megamachine
(Thick Records)
10. The Charade - The Best is Yet to Come (Skipping Stones)

I've actually heard most of the top 50 this year, and I think they did a good job.
Cam'ron at #8 suprised me (of course I think it should be #1, c'est le vie), and Art Brut being so high with a debut was quite kick ass because that album is in fact kick ass.
No Architecture in Helsinki though?
I agree with most of the list, it's the placement of some which seems to be the major gripe reading the posts above.
Kanye and Stevens also being top of my list of "... What?"

hooray, i have only three albums on that list, one i actually listen to. i'm becoming more and more disconnected with mainstream music entertainment. that or i have a bad taste in music according to pitchfork

grayhood,
My favorite album of 2005 is Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Howl. It just blew me away. I liked them before, but hearing the changes they made, and having seen them live this year, the album was the best for me.
I NEVER hear songs that I want to learn how to play, cover songs just are not my thing. But Howl has at least 4 songs that I found myself trying to figure out, and getting the tab online.
Restless Sinner, such a great song.

vwsung18t ... you have bad taste in music.
... Haha, I listened to much more outside the Top 50 as well.
Plus in 2005, I found myself listening to much older stuff. I take a week and I'll only listen to Björk, U2, The Who, Zeppelin, Pixies, Monkees, much more like everything they did on permanent repeat.
I don't know why I started this, I think as a joke but I can't stop.

It reads like a list of all the albums music critics say you should really like, but actually are often a bit disappointing.

(Dec 20 05, 10:07)I totally agree, Into The Woods was my top album of this year. To have that fuckin cheesy Franz Ferdinand album in at number 30 with him nowhere in sight is just wrong. Some of the other choices on that list are questionable to say the least.

(Dec 21 05, 01:55)It's pretty easy to forget Babyshambles, they're total shite and Pete Docherty is a cunt.
