search sometimes works for me. i usually give it a go and mention i tried it when asking a question.
i think lots of the "negativity" is banter, although some come in here just to piss all over everyone else. those do stick out and sometimes eclipse the tons of helpful and inspiring threads if you let them.

believe it or not, nooner, i did read the hollywood thread.
there are certain requests that will inherently piss people off, and something like that was one of them. not making a cursory search before posting a question is another. starting a thread when there's already and existing one is yet another.
