its a shame that there are no spreads available and that the work is coming second to the advertising - hence the no right hand pages.
So is this full colour?
I might have a go, how does the creditation work?
- UndoUndo0
are the Felts the Gallaghers of the UK design industry? ;)

nah, partners mate, and no, not 'put it in each others holes' partners!

Felt,
Umm.. yes the advertsing pays for it.. otherwise theyd be no mag!
We give about 4 pages to pure artwork (that is gung-ho do what the artists want) and we have articles that are available to peopl ethat wish to do them. There really isn't any control over what they produce.. as long as it is with guides and fuking readable! (i do judge and throw out if its not on par mind you! but then i dont want trash - i want nice pages surely!)
money wise.. umm. i get paid jack and have to do most of the mag, and when i say jack.. i mean bare bare minimum so much so its pratically free! and I have to slog out when ive done my other freelance.
what is your problem!
- UndoUndo0
LOL @ David, I didn't think you were. :)
its very strange when you meet ppl like with a kind of connection like that.

- chossy0
Is it an ezene or whatever you call them like just an internet mag and not print?
ps. I'm not having a go gpop I'd like to know, I might be interested in doing someting for it some time.....

I submitted a 'Boss design which I heard nothing back from anyone, so that was me not mr dave.

Hehar, this is funny, somebody who isnt being paid (to produce work for, collate submissions, and choose appropriate work for) a magazine is fastidiously defending the said magazine.
Noone is knocking it gpop, its a nice little mag, but i think it would be kind of naive to beleive you were getting to produce your own style of work and that it would be noticed by someone who would then pay you to produce work for them.....
I mean, who picks up this magazine? as far as i know its just people like us!

my 2 cents:
the Blowback lot seemed alright to me when I met them at one of their dos while back - they even tolerated me becoming a sloppy drunken mess in the corner of their painfully-cool little party. Oh.. and nicking some artwork of the wall .. i ..uh.. forgot about that.
Like many design-related companies, they can appear a bit cliquey and faddish. This is common. Get over it.
It has a wide, exposed readership in many of the 'Right' places in Britain. If I were an aspiring designer with some time to kill, I'd consider donating pieces to them - if just to get exposure in the centre of London and Manchester..
They host LOTS of work - much of it pretty decent.
I actually like the smell. Of the publication, not this bullshit bullshit.
This is not about 'that' [read 'your' :) ] Gay Cowbuoy flick, JazX!

It used to be all over Covent Garden, Carnaby St, etc. I know they're distributed from the 'trendy-place equivalents' in Manchester and Newcastle too.
We advertsied with them last year, so I checked out 'pick uptake' from the various drop offs they had around and sure enough they were picked up fairly quickly. We'd often find that all the copies would be gone from various places within the day they were dropped off.

Exactly Nairn...
Not blowing my own trumpet, but its starting to look better over the last few issues (im losing the random throw together they once loved!).
It is distributed in all the major cities etc and they do shift, theres a huge number produced to. Its also now sold in Borders and such shops.
we don't want people to feel they are under pressure to do pages.. people have been doing it for the enjoyment (its how i got involved in the first place) and It's not like I dont get paid.. its just that my normal fee was almost 3 times as much but to be honest I wanted to do some print and I enjoy doing this so continue (money and london isnt the end of the world especially building websites day in day out!).
They guys have held many exhibitions and events promoting musicians and artists and intend to hold more in the future. I have had work come in from it so it does pay off.. publicity is the key afterall.

I'm just wondering why you decide to post this on Dec. 13th and the deadline is Dec. 14th??
That's 1 day to put something together?
Is that correct?

There was a post a few weeks ago for this but mustve been posted in American time so lost in the UK. I have had a few designs sent through from that thread, some good some bad, and am just reposting to get 'more good' in!
It's not such an effort - it's more if you have any random design experiments lying around gathering dust - then put them to good use!
- moveinspace0
I submitted and gpop has been nothing but cool. Neuarmy I know you have some random stuff laying around.
p.s. Felt brothers...tight work.
