if you want to go to the beach then the Perehentian islands of malaysia are a must. Kecil (small) and Besar (big). I stayed on Kecil its awesome for diving, snorkelling, chillin and more chillin one of the best islands ive ever been to and ive been to loads.

vietnam/china
why do you recommend vietnam over china - did you have bad experience or just personal taste ? of course i would love to go to vietnam, too, but even though i am traveling for 3 months - its basically a joke for seeing things in 2 countries, especially with china's size.malaysia:
a friend of mine recommended Tioman for snorkeling/diving/chillin, but i will check out Kecil/Besar. thanks !

i have been to Shenzhen China many times for work, its the fastest growing region in the entire world...each time i visit, large scale new developments a built in record times, super tall buildings stretching to the sky!! the night sky is luminated by endless neon and a large concrete jungle of glass and steel.
this city is a far cry from the Communist ideals to the rest of the country. Capitalism has been brought in and you wouldnt knoow you were in China after witnessing ShenZhen.
Hong KOng is excellent!!!
have fun!!

singapore... go to the zoo if you are the nature kind... supposed to be the best in the world
catch a performance at the durian-like esplanade (singapore's opera house)
chill out along the clubs of Mohammed Sultan Road
Go to Sentosa (zouk out is a major year end party) for island resort
Shop at the famous Orchard Road.
Go Bugis for on going night market.
Visit Geylang for red-light district action.
Ho hum... will think of more if you are interested.

if you go to the Perehentian's take some booze with you. When I went they weren't allowed to sell beer on the little island apart from a bloke breaking the law and selling it out of a bag.
Don't let that put you off though, its a fantastic island.
As for other stuff, go KL for the street food. Just the best ever.
Also check out the Islamic Museum, very interesting.
Vietnam is great, try to get to Nah Trang and onto the private peninsular for a jungle trek and swim in the phosperous algae.
Go to Cambodia and do it all.
That's my favourite place in the whole wide world. Great people great country.

SINGAPORE
Eat some great satay and other local delights at Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre (best in the evening)
Go to the night safari (better than the Zoo IMO)
Visit Little India. Great for buying Indian gold, don't forget to haggle!
It's a cliche but have a Singapore Sling in the Long Bar at Raffles (don't attempt to get in if you're wearing shorts and flip-flops). If you have the inclination go and eat at the Tiffin Room at Raffles my nephew Haizul works there - he'll look after you!
Visit the Colonial area on the other side of the river to Boat Quay to see: great architecture, the Asian Civilisation museum, City Hall and the Padang
Visit the Merlion at the mouth of the Singapore River
Go to Funan in North Bridge Road if you want to buy cheap electronics
Shop in Orchard Road (already mentioned before) but more importantly check out the huuuuge Takashimaya mall
If you want a laugh got to the nightclubs in Orchard Towers (Top Ten and Crazy Horse) but be careful of tall the Asian 'women'
Visit Fort Canning. There's a nice spice / sculpture garden and the tomb of the warrior King of Temasek (Singapore)
Arab Street is a really nice place to be. Touristy shops sell arts and crafts in the shadow of the Sultan Mosque.
Singapore Botanic Gardens is great if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and also houses a really good restaurant called Halia (Halia = Ginger in Malay). Their menu uses ginger in most of it's dishes - sounds bad but it's really subtle
The chinese hawkers on the Joo Chiat Road makes great pepper and chilli crabs but get there early for dinner (about 4.30pm!)
MALAYSIA
Tioman has been mentioed and I can also recommend it. Really, really amazing diving opportunites. However if you're going soon the East coast of the peninsula is still in monsoon season til Jan / Feb.
KL has had practically all it's historic buildings destroyed in the path of progress. Seeing the Petronas twin towers is a must-see. Avoid the cheap tat at Petaling street (unless you're looking for a S$10 Rolex). Look out for the odd Pasar Malam (night markets)
Pangkor Laut: paradise comes at a price but really, really worth it!

In singapore you really can't go wrong. But I enjoyed Zouks alot, there was this Simoan bouncer there that was built like a mac truck, like he was 'uge. Also the bar in the basement of one of the hotels there maybe the Hilton
In Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur you've got to check Grappa Soho. Its divine.
As for China in Shanghai the jazz bar at the Peace hotel is Cool and legendary, with great cigars, and in Hong Kong check out Long Kwai Fong(my spelling might be off here). There is a jazz club there called the Jazz club that is my favorite bar in the world.

cigirates, beers, cocktails, and stuff is wayyy cheaper in Malaysia.
Singapore = clean and i love it. always go there once a month at least, mostly hangout with the graffiti artist over there.Malaysia, it's better if you have friends to guide you around... sometimes the public service / transportation can be very depressing or annoying. Yeah, Sabah (Kota Kinabalu) is great. Kuala lumpur is mostly Cities and people around. U wanna go clubbing, go to Jalan Sultan Ismail area (near my office) :P
Enjoy your stay and don't forget to taste our local satay (Joshua Davis love Satay), Nasi Lemak (in Banana Leaves), roti canai (with Curry).
FYI, Malaysia is a multi-racial country. Not all women wear hijab/p for crying out loud, no people carrying gun in here. You find nice student helping tourist finding their directions.
Cheers.
