what's the cheapest/easiest way to move a wife, two dogs, studio, and basically a two bedroom house of stuff halfway across the country(US).
I'm looking for alternatives to uhaul, etc. Thanks for your ideas!

fuck a whore on her birthday?
that'll move half your salary aswell but there will be some lega fees to incur.

4 cases of beer
5 good friends
1 big truck(you'll need the first 2 on each end of the trip)

i saw this thing called PODS
its like a min storage space that you put all your crap in and they'll transfer it to wherever or even hold it at a warehouse
i dont recommend puttin the dogs in though...

I'm pretty sure if I went the whore route I wouldn't have to move anymore. Hummm...
gruntt, so you're saying renting the truck is the cheapest.

last time me and my wife moved we used the moving company "2 men and a truck"
i highly recommend them
they moved all of our stuff really quickly, under their estimated amount of time, for a pretty cheap price and they didn't break ANYTHING!
highly recommended
but we weren't moving across country we were just moving from one city to another in state.

it was the cheapest for my wife and i a couple of years ago but we only moved across the state.
christmas is coming too so maybe put out the word that you and your family want a move for a present. everybody pitch in a few bucks. just an idea.

you know when my friends as me to do that type sh*t. I find something else to do. I've been trapped into moving people, that just weren't ready to move. If your friend is still packing everything up and asking you to move them, you've got problems.
:(

gruntt, mind if I ask what the cost of the truck was, across the state?

i found renting a truck is the cheapest, I am spending 10% of what a moving company wants to charge me.
- kyl30
fusion, any alternatives to uhaul?
ryder, etc.
- rasko40
oh well you didn't mention that you wanted to move aswell, I just thought you needed that 'stuff' moved, in which case my advice was pretty good.
- bradpitt0
uhaul would be the best method I guess, since you live in a house. What about the others penske, etc?
- gruntt0
i don't remember the costs. sorry. it was one of those big ass Penske trucks. The largest you can drive without a special license.
also, on this end (the destination) we hired a couple of day laborers from a place called "Labor Ready" - basically drop outs and deadbeat dads that need to make a buck. As for loading the truck we had friends help. I paid them with booze. But I made sure we had everything ready to go. All boxes were filled and taped and labeled before anyone showed up to help move them.
