I have a firend that bought a mac mini in Fry's for $150 he gets 5 years of warrany (its $300 for 3 years with apple).
Apple customer service is pathetic, my 15PB broke down, and I had to leave my computer for over a week with them, I needed another computer to keep working, and they wouln't give me something to use, so I had to buy one.
I've herd from my friend that they will just give you a new computer at fry's and if they fix it, they provide you with another machine till it's fixed.
don't quote me on that, but I will check it out..

powerbook is the only product i would recommend the applecare. normally i think extended warranties are a scam, but i have heard of too many problems occuring with those things to not cover your ass.
But I don't think you have to buy the powerbook from apple to get the applecare. i would double check that.

I'm so glad I got the apple care!! I had to have my keyboard replace two time because the same letter broke and I also had to have my screen replace.. not to mention the many time I call the 1 800 number for technical questions.... no really, thanks god I had paid for apple care, it was worth it, and like doesnotexist saird, it has paid for itself

meeklo ... who and what is fry? where are they located.
i apple care is good i guess if your not real tech savy. cause if your machine breaks apple will tear you a new hole. they charge you just to talk to them and then they charge you to tranfer to a person who will send you a box so that you could send it to them for repairs in which the warrenty is not covered for ...apple sells good product but they also rip you off if you have problems with em...apple care only goes so far..

If I paid for insurance on every electronic item I purchased within the past couple of years...
I personally believe in just saving my money, and if something breaks, I'll be better off paying for the damage rather than paying for applecare on every item I purchase.

one powerbook screen worth more than one applecare warrantie...

it sounds like it's worth the piece of mind...it comes out to around $120 a month! If your gonna spend that much for the product might as well back it up!
On another note i have 5 yr old grey G4 dual 500m...will the new powerbook be faster?

I've never believed in extended warrantys since the whole economic idea behind them is that the majority of people will NEVER use the warranty.
That said, the Firewire port on my old Ti-book died after two years...warranty would have covered it. I DID buy Applecare on my new Powerbook.

i had a 17" powerbook and the three yr applecare policy - 2.5 yrs after purchase the screen hinge broke, rendering the machine useless. Took it in to my local apple service center and woila, new screen - a new lease on life.
sold it on ebay fro $900 and bought a g5 2.0

Applecare - Do it!!
I purchased a 17" PB over 12mths ago, it needs to go in for repair as there is a overheating issue. I'm glad that i opted for Applecare, i haven't needed to rush to get the machine fixed.

remember Applecare isnt just an extended warranty.. its free telephone support for 3 years too, effectively a guarantee that your hardware and Apple software (mainly the OS) will do what they say, or they have to fix it or sort out why it isnt working... so its more than just repairs...
I've had Applecare on 3 Powerbooks, well worth it...

i didnt get it, had my only problem so far during warranty. if a repair is gonna cost more than 500, which most will, get it. i just leave it up to chance now that my warranty is up...
pbs cost less now than in 04 when i got mine, so... hard to say.. if you have the dough get it.... but keep in mind all extended warranties have strings and are mostly money grabbers.

Fry's is a sort of electronics store.

(i'm not sure if this is what they were talking about but I'm pretty sure it is)

had my PB Harddisc crashed; replaced; applecare covered the whole € 200 for it. Now my screen hinge broke; need new LCD; € 700 repair costs, also covered. Applecare costed me € 300,- at the time. Now I have a brandnew looking TiBook :]

Definitely get Applecare if you buy a Powerbook.

RoyBoy...all my Powerbooks have had problems (some really major like motherboard replacement, one had Bluetooth disappearing without a trace, screws falling out of battery bay(!), white spots on screen), but apart from downtime while getting repaired hasnt been a big deal, as it was all covered...

it says you get 'global' repair coverage for anything that can function independently of its power cord. so, theoretically, my pb from the us would be covered in the uk if i had applecare for it?
