(actualy doesn't look as nice as I remember ;D )

is it a Yoof oriented thing or a more stately oxbridgey kind of job?
- DavidFelt0
yeah he wants it attract the yoof, but also appeal to its smaller (but still important) base of mature students! its for:
lovelly logo eh? they have all their stuff done by the in house designers at huddersfield uni, and are sick of the shit they produce, so a real good opportunity for me to 1, increase the visual beauty of my town and 2. get a good foot in the door with a huge client!

That logo could be far worse. You could make some nice patterns out of that with clever colour choice.
- DavidFelt0
yeah its not the worst, maybe the hard part is convincing them that something different and nice is the way to go, these kinds of people can be very stubborn about wanting shit design!
- DavidFelt0
the logo has just so obviosly not been done by a real agency, just an in house idiot who knows how to use illy and PS, and i think it shows quite bad....
- kelpie0
it's a bit of shite aye, but to be honest, I've had to work with much worse - t least the typeface is reasonable, and the mark is geometric so you'll be able to throw it all over the place and work it. Actualy from the looks of this I think you could do OK with it if you can persuade them you'r the man for the job. (sounds like they already know the current stuff is shite).
I'll e-mail you something that will no doubt fill you with fresh impetus and confidence :)
- DavidFelt0
theyre defo going with us for the job, i just wanna do somat ace, you know how you get that excited feeling at the start of a job, full of optimism that you can do something nice, get recognition from it, and repeat enjoyable work..... well that feeling HAS to stay, dont let it go away!!!!!!!!! LOL
- kelpie0
check your mail dave-o...
- DavidFelt0
Thanks Kelpe, hey, you do that logg yourself??? haha, LOL
- kelpie0
NO i did not. how dare you?
- fifty500
In my experience – however limited that may be – thinking of a task as a shitty one will make you so unmotivated to do a nice job on it, even if the client is a cnut. It's easy to just bang it out and take the money but it's more rewarding to "polish the turd", as you say, and have something to be at least slightly proud of at the end of the day.

hollywood has "Alan Smithee" for when the true director can't stomach the result or needs to conceal his/her for whatever reason.
I suggest the same need exists for designers and naturally, the is is:
"Lorem Ipsum"
I'd take the cake and run, credit to Mr Lorem Ipsum.
