It all started when I bought a Roku Soundbridge to stream all my digital music to my home theater system. Before hooking it up I tried to consolidate all my music files into one location. To do this I bought an external 250 GB HD to put about 45 GB of music I've downloaded in the past 5 years here at work. Then I got greedy and used OurTunes and "archived" about another 80 GB of music off our network, most of which I will never listen to but hell who knows when you'll need some Britney, 38 Special, and/or some Neal Diamond.
I also had my home itunes library and another friends music folder all to put on one central location. Man, I was going to have more music then SONY.
Then as I was copying to drive to drive and deleting the old files I accidentally trashed the folder I was consolidating it all on to.
F*CK!!!!!!!!!!! I tried DataRescue II and it seemed like it was going to work but I had to buy another 250 GB HD to place the rescued files on. DataRescue works good but maybe to good! I found most of the original files but more temp files. Now I have a 1000 1 sec mp3's, 1000 2 sec, 1000 3 sec...etc...etc...
Its going to take me weeks to figure out what files actually are full songs. Now I'm into this project for hundreds of dollars to play mp3's half of which I got for free. Karma or Bad luck?

Aren't most of these tracks still available to you though?
The stuff from your work network should still be there and your buddies tunes should still be somewhere on his computer so what you've lost is the 45 gig of music you had downloaded.... bad but not as bad.

my buddy moved back to the mid west and I'm seriously thinking about sending him one of my HD's. As for the work network most of it is shite, there is someones folder that has great music (fugazi, jets to brazil,...) but it all has digital skips in it.

It was instinct. You trashed Neil Diamond unconsciously.
