Anyone think the military is an inherently 'male' institution?
That men would do well in it and women would have a harder time because they are born that way...or that because our society is built upon patriarchy, women do not have a good chance of becoming anything in the military.
I'm just getting some opinions so that I can get revved up for my 10-15 page essay I have to write today.
Thanks :)

women shouldn't be on the front lines of a battle or war but can't back up my argument without sounding like a chauvanist ass
so if they REALLY want to be one the frontlines... let em be on the frontlines, i guess.

Little boys play war, little girls play house.

not meaning this in a sexist way, but is it not to do with the fact that women are naturally meant to be creators of life and not enders of life?!

Little boys play war, little girls play house.

(Nov 29 05, 07:07)and when you put little boys and little girls together they play doctor.

during wwII when all the men were off at war, all of the women took over their manual labor jobs back home. welding, machinery, heavy lifting, hard manual work and so on and so forth and they performed flawlessly. they achieved greatness doing 'a mans work' that no man before ever thought they could do.
i don't see what the difference is here.
the only problem i see is putting a few ladies into a platoon with 40 men who haven't had sex in months, if not years.
but hey, if it worked in starship troopers i guess it would work in real life too.

I think ladies of the world, that first you must learn to park before you can start thinking about driving a tank or stabbing someone with a bayonet.
pffft

Thats the thing about tanks though. You don't need to parallel park the fuckers. Just take it right in the front door of tescos.
- van_rijn0
now does the woman play army during that time of the month?

the "difference" is mindless killing of others when you are told to by someone.
the main reasoning lies with the stats - look at how many men to women voluntarily sign up to join the forces. surely that tells you something.
men want to have guns, women dont!

would YOU fight for king or country Jaline?
- Jaline0
we discussed this in our gender and politics class, and why men are associated with violence, and women are associated with peacekeeping.

Well....I did the National Service in France (as it was compulsary) and guess what there were girls with us....real girls who wanted to be soldiers....In fact, it was a great experience as they could help us to see things differently and our instructor was a woman as well...she was sub-officer and I believe that without them in our Squadron it wouldnt have been the same. Boosted our moral and the spirit was incredible.
- Mimio0
More specifically men want to kill, and women don't.
- Jaline0
would YOU fight for king or country Jaline?
konspiracy
(Nov 29 05, 07:16)nope.
I thought I'd be okay being in the health care aspect of it, but really...it's almost as worse as actually being at the frontlines.
- kelpie0
except you don't get as badly shelled.
- Jaline0
I definitely think there should be a mixture, because women and men can keep each other in line.
But then you get questions about 'men not being able to control themselves' and it becomes a huge problem.
- kelpie0
Konspiracy, I think this all begs the question "would you" though?
- kelpie0
I fucking wouldn't btw. no siree
