itunes is driving me crazy and i need an alternate program to manage/transfer my songs between my PC and my ipod.
what do you suggest?

i know creativelabs has some software that has filters for reading 'other' devices other than creative devices... give them a shot...

ephpod

winamp 5.1 has a plugin for iPods... but don't bounce back and forth between itunes and whatever other software you use... cuz iTunes will get confused and start updating and shit - by downloading everything from the pod to the iTunes music folder (this can take forever)...
... just a thought - maybe you should stay with iTunes - it may be worth the hassle in the end.

is designed for windows and works really really well, i got it because its easyer for running more than one ipod on the pc, itunes just screwed everything up.

maybe i'll stay with itunes cause i just downloaded ephPod and it can't even play my music without opening winamp.
i'll consider sticking it out with itunes if someone can help me with this issue:
i have about 4000 songs in itunes and somehow half of them are duplicates (i only have 2000 different songs). without manually clicking through and deleting all 2000 what do i do?i tried using the feature in itunes that shows duplicate songs, but that desnt help me automatically delete the duplicates. i can't possibly be the only one with this problem, right?

anapod looks good, but can it play your songs too?
- ********0
I never had that problem... sounds like you inported them twice.
Re name folder where the music is.
Delete iTunes Library Preference File.
Open iTunes a new.
Set iTunes to preference to new music folder (the one you re named with all your tunes)
Import new folder
Done.

KILLputer, good advice, but what about all my playlists??
- jaymac440
it sounds like when you first installed it you might have let itunes manage your music folder for you which copies your music to another folder. THis happened to me. I was shocked to see that my hard drive shrunk in no time. I had to erase all the new copies, erase my library from itunes(not from computer and then reload my music again. Pain in the Ass
- jevad0
yeay jay, must have been a real fucker to reload all that indigo girls and john tesh
- leftwave0
exactly, total pain in the ass. but it's even a bigger pain in the ass if i have to go through and recreate over a dozen playlists with several hundred songs in each one. there has GOT to be an easier way to do this. help, someone, please! :)
- Ginja0
anapod will play the music through any player you want.
i suggest downloading the free version and if you like it upgrade to what you need.
it lets you do so much more than itunes. transfer music from ipod to pc, stream music from ipod, and has a full sql search engine of your tracks.

good luck. I couldn't find one, if you do post here for the rest of who it will inevitably happen to

select all your tunes in your library - then change an ID tag on them all - change their equalizer settings or composer or something... this will then go through all your files and if it finds one missing or a duplicate it doesn't need it puts an exclamation mark next to them on the left. then you can just go and select and delete...
your playlists will stay the same.
i do this every so often to keep my library clean.

thanks _me_
there's always someone smarter to help us schleps
- leftwave0
good advice, i'll try that. thanks.
what i really want to know, is why doesn't one of the "really smart" people working to develop crappy software like iTunes consider these issues and actually integrate features into their programs to address this sort of stuff?!?
- quamb0
i dig itunes. despite some bugs like the one yo got. which will be fixed over time anyway.
they arent magical pixies who get everything right for every user.

if you dont' want to lose your playlists too, why not do a Select All on the songs in the library, hit delete and say NO when it asks to move them to the trash. Then when they're all gone, just go to Add Songs To Library and get all the music back in there again. I kind of wish it was smart enough to delete duplicates on its own.
