Serious Hosting

So I'm looking for a serious hosting platform that can handle hundreds of gigabytes of bandwidth. My main concern is to find a host that is all about business and less about brand. I get a feeling the 2ANet is using their brand power to sell hosting, and MediaTemple has built up a brand as well to convince all designers they are the best. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on who is really the best, beyond the smoke and mirrors?

So I take it by the lack of helpful tips from NT'ers, that everyone's on mt? lol

Probably should talk to Rackspace too

Have been complete impressed with Lunarpages hosting. I use it and have had several clients who use them as well.
They keep adding features and upping capacity while price remains the same. Gotta like that!

This is what we use for all our enterprise websites

Not sure if Lunarpages is serious enough for you on the bandwidth requirements but I have no complaints with their service.
Here is the link:

I don't think MT does managed hosting.

also, I don't like Plesk (MT's control panel).

yeah, i'm on (mt) now because I got a nice discount through the NT promotion a few months back.

What do you want Novell iManager?
I've used a VPS from Ntt/Verio for years, it's very good. Pro support.

Also, I often wonder why touting superior customer support is such a good thing? I'd rather hear a hosting company tell me that, 'yes we've got superior customer support, as that's just standard, but you'll never need to use it, because you'll not have any problems with our service.'
Too often when I see all of these superior customer support testimonials that makes me think, 'so you had to call customer support?' RED FLAG.

are there any particular technology requirements of the host? or are you looking to colo this box(es)?
- in general, Rackspace is awesome.
- Verio is good, but they have issues and run a pretty tight M$ shop.are you by chance coming from a government or education environment and comparing to those? if so, i can offer some fair comparisons.

I have setup several sites at Verio and have never really had a problem. The offer unlimited bandwith which is rare. Most of the others that say that the offer it are bullshiting and will kick you off if you are busy. Verio is for real.
I have no idea about MS hosting there. Everything we have setup has been on Unix.

i stand corrected.
i thought that Verio ran pretty tight MS setup for all hosting plans. off hand, were you setting up colo'd machines, or shared?
nice to see they offer FreeBSD right up front. : )
thanks for the correction jason.
