hi, i'm making a site for university psychology lab. all feedback and ideas are welcome :)

i like it, but somehow something is missing....
:(

the "missing" feeling is actually the style of design. this a design for psychophysiology dept which is not hip and exciting. this is more along the lines of seriousness and even maybe a little darkness. it would be more relevant to the subject to be elegant and sophisticated with a good energy feeling to break away from the depression that can be assoiciated via society. you could do that with a common color structure. for example, use the same blue and counter it with the greyscale used.
also, its a little weird for the main image to be a single person in greyscale. then the bottom graphic is a large group of people. there really should be a common theme. maybe the main theme would be the same crowd inviting the user in.
the design structure seems more fitting for a brochure about the services offered or research conducted, not a website.
just my opinion. not saying its a horrible design.

i am also a little typsy. :P

its good - right for its demographic :)

shouldnt the colours and design be a little more bright, positive and uplifting.
surely if someone in this dark state of mind wouldnt want to see a dark grey realm which they are trying to get out of themselves???

I am not too keen on the yellow green and blue mix of colors on the main image, also I think a woman looking pretty miserable isn't the best thing to look at.

I think the typography is okay - just that ampersand (&) looks odd, jiggle it!

agree with what people say – too negative. Colours are a little wayward

IMHO...
it's too pessimistic, but I like it...
If you drop the black image with the woman and replace it with an other one...(maybe a blue one)...

Do not like the colour. And I understand why you have used that colour, but for me it just not working. But the layout OK. :)

i agree with some of the previous comments...if they wanted gloomy you did a good job. I dont like the text treatment in the header and i really dont like the BG image but other then that i think the layout works

I think the coloured text on the pic would work better if you just reversed it out. Also on the main pic - a pic that looked like a bunch of normal people would work well - sort of saying its more about everyoes pyschology - not jusy people who are depressed/suicidal?
Otherwise - the layout is great and everythng else looks dead sharp and clean.

overall it feels a bit dark and depressing considering the content.

very nice and appropriate, maybe rearrange the 'focused on ...' thingy at the top, a bit jumbled

What i am feeling is a site reflecting the loss of a loved one to "Stress or Anxiety". This is where a mother would come in order to deal with her loss, not to be healed.
Personally, when i see or hear the words stress and anxiety I become tight and restricted. These are similar feelings I get from the design. Tables with borders locked to the center with colors that have a negative impact very straight to the point.
I guess the question is...do you want the target to enter the site and say " this is me" or " this is what i want"?

pretty much exactly what pieter said
colours, typography, menu and layout are all wrong...

the photo i would agree is gloomy but the colors seem comforting

wow, excellent feedback everyone. i guess i should've mentioned from the beginning that the client WANTED a dark/gloomy/somewhat depressing feeling to the site. i too questioned this at first, then i just accepted it and i think i made them what they wanted?

Nice beginning. I would do a little more research on what this research / medical study is. It seems like a mixture between psychology and physiology. If you have already. . . focus on the interesting aspects.
Mix images that play on it.
You have to admit, for example, playing with a mixture of a face , half expressing emotion and the other half showing biological construction of that face may be more interesting than showing a depressed person in a cliché pose. [you have to admit the pose is common]
Your main layout is meticulous, well layed out, simplified and such but the imagery needs to reflect what is interesting about the research more.
thanks for listeningMirefly
