being a (sometimes) mechanic, i can honestly say that Honda is consistently putting out a shittier and shittier product that breaks down way more frequently.
Before you know it, they're going to be subject to the same stuff going on in north america now (ie: engineered cheap, sold it at the same price).
it's sad, but the truth of the matter is that the almighty dollar wins out every time.

no worries Jaz :)

i read somewhere in a poll that alot (can't remember the percentage) of car buyers believe toyota to be an american product. Now that's damn good marketing

(Nov 21 05, 08:17)hmmm, or damn stoopid people? ;)

yeah GM isn't going belly up whatsoever, hence why they are laying people off. money saving measures. happened to me a large financial institution. nothing personal

Laying off people is just like pissing in the pants, it warms now, but will get cold in the long run.
GM should look at the companies on the other side of the pond. They figured it out long time ago.

not good. it's shaking the market.
I've heard WB, Sony and many media companies had layoffs too.

also, their enormous pension deficit played a big part. it was underfunded by billions of dollars.

(Nov 21 05, 08:08)That's the worst part about big business this 2005. between the airlines and motor corps, breaking off their hardworking blue colar workers and throwing them under the bus.. pathetic/

what do you expect when unions keep trying to bleed companies for more money?
they're doing a noble thing, but there's a breaking point for everyone.
- version30
Gucci did you really just try to blame the union? wtf man, if not for the union benefits would suck , wages would be lower and there would be no voice for the working man, in manufacturing you need a union
- mrdobolina0
exactly, if you need to lay blame on health care costs, how about being truthful about it. By blaming insurance companies/ big pharm etc.
- Gucci0
unions aren't looked on with high regard right now in canada. teachers unions are holding out, unions everywhere are holding out it seems.
i know it's a generalization, and yes, there have been great things accopmlished with unions, but a lot of times they come off as bullies.you're right though. i was a little off the mark.
- mrdobolina0
yes, you need unions in manufacturing in the US.
This is why everything is moving to Suriname.
- johndiggity0
there's plenty of non-union auto plants in the us, and most of these are owned by the profitable auto makers.
i think this is more of a case of bad product and design coupled with way too many brands/segments. there really hasn't been any innovation coming out of gm or ford lately. too much money is being tied up in halo cars and high-end suv's, while the japanese and koreans are cornering the affordable car market.

(Nov 21 05, 08:47)Well, he's got a point though. Unions can be good and bad. Trust me, on a personal note, my father was in the Steelworkers Union for 35 years and they ended up treating him and other realtives of mine like sh*t.
- mrdobolina0
the union may have treated your father badly, but the steelmill may have mandated your father work 16 hour days, if there was no union.

unions are good mafia unions are bad
we should keep those2 seperate

(Nov 21 05, 09:49)that might be true and nationally they were good, but just for sake of argument I'm stating they treated my father poorly in the end.

The unions were good to narrow down the workday and make life better for many working people, but the corruption that followed after just fuhcks it all up. Unions have to many fat cats doing nothing. If unions were efficient organizations, it would have been better. Then they would be more flexable and trust worthy.
