Which? And why one over the other?
I keep hovering the applestore button with both configs but can't decide.

the 17" is HUGE
I guess it depends whether you want to be more or less portable, I would probalby go for the 15"
(saying that I have a 12")
PB that is jox steady!

might be that i have just had a 15" for so long, but everyone i know w/ the 17" loves it, but always seems to have to move anything near them to use the beast.
if you are pretty stationary, or only going to/from the same places it would rock for sure. if you are mobile quite a bit, i would say the 15".
but then again, that might be my long-time use w/ the 15" and i need a slap in the face...

15"
and a Dell 24" display to hook it up to at home/office

i'm in the same dilemma at the moment, jox.
i think i might do as ribit has advised and keep a good display at home. it's tricky, though. i can't very well keep displays all over town, can i?

either way it's a lot of peanut butter.

15 is def more portable. it's enough peanut butter.
i have 15 and external monitor. i rarely use external though.

i had the same thing when i bought my powerbook 2 months ago. i took the 15" cause its easyer to take with you. the 17" is really big...

17" man...
Don't even mess with that 15"..

i do not understand the 17 pb, its fucking too big. i thought the point of a laptop was ease and portability. so i guess my answer would be 15. but personally i would get a 12. but i would not use it for hardcore working just play.

I'm going to be quite portable, I have a 15" tibook I carry with me everyday now, but at the same time - the 17" doesn't seem *that* much more of a bitch to drag around.
I need it on monday and right now both screens are fine as long as i can get it today but nobody in this gawdaymned town has one with the new 7200 rpm drive in it!!

either way, i'd wait.
apple's coming out with dual core laptops in january....
you heard it here first.

the 12" is a no-no for me, way too tiny to work on, plus you don't get as many spiffy gizmos as the bigger ones do.
- Nairn0
If you're hovering between the two, I recommend having a look at this to clear things up a little..
I know which one I'd go for!

Get the 12"
- jox0
There's no way. If there was, add another year for recompilation of all software before you can actually use them.
Plus, I need it on monday.

17" notebooks are mainly designed as desktop replacements for ocassional portability, i.e once in a while to the cabin etc. If you carry a 17" anything around everyday you're crazy IMO.

lol @ Nairn. I actually made one of those back in school!

Jox - I've got and have used both and I'll mirror what's been said previously.
The 17" is fantastic and worth the extra bucks but only if you're planning to use it as a desktop replacement that occasionally may make a trip or two. It's not HUGE but it's just big enough to make it a little difficult to lug around. Can't complain about the specs though.
The 15" is perfect is all other regards. It fits perfectly in a myriad of laptop/carrier bags and is sturdy enough to handle it.
Bottom line: If you demand constant portability - 15". Otherwise, 17".
:-)
(be aware that the first Intel machines will be out in 1Q 2006...it never ends!)

Thanks olli - yeah, I am going to stay with the pre-intel apples as long as i can, so that's more of a reason for me to speed up the ordering than to wait. ^_^
