Looking to go to Maui in December. Good time bad time? I heard it could be quite windy.
Any recommendations on where to stay? Looking to relax at a nice resort or B&B for 7 days. Any nicely designed nooks for a reasonable rate?
Not set on Maui, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maui in winter is the windsurfer's mecca.
but that's mostly on the NShore.
not really an issue on the other/ resort side.. Kihei, Lahaina or Kaanapali most likely.

Kaanapali. The weather will chop up the seas, so you won't have pristine water for snorkelling/scuba/surfing, but the on-shore stuff should be fine.

Maluaka Beach should be ok this time of year. South side of the island.

Just went for my honeymoon in July. Go Maui or don't go at all. It was amazing. Stayed in Kahana. 10 minutes north of Kaanapali Village. More condo style places up that at a better price. Down in Kaanapali you'll be paying for the Hyatt and such at like $400 a night for a room that doesn't even overlook the beach. Our property was about 15 years old but in good condition. Had a full kitchen, living room and overlooked the ocean. $250 a night.
Wind can be a factor especially if you go out on a snorkeling trip or similar. Seas can get a bit choppy and if you get seasick easily it won't be a good trip.
Other than that the island is filled with tons of stuff to do. We took a helicopter tour. Worth every penny. Drove the road to Hana. An all day event. Went horseback riding on the North Shore. Not quite sure if I will be able to have kids now.
Enjoy.

Spent a week there for my 30th b day and a friends wedding. Rented a Pathfinder and brought a tent and slept on the beach and in the SUV everynight! Best vacation ever! Riding mt bikes down the volcano on my 30th is something I'll never forget.

We took a flight from here in Atlanta to O'Hare and then straight to Maui. 9.5 hour flight. My butt was numb.

I have been to Maui over christmas many time - it is a great time of year to go. There are some great little places to stay right before you hit lahina that are really affordabel and righ by the beach. Get a travel agent to hook you up.

spent my honeymoon in maui...amazing.
We stayed in wailea...it's expensive but worth every penny...nothing like getting off an 8 hour plane flight only to be welcomed by a hawaiian breeze. Amazing.
have fun.

winter is a good time, not as windy as the other seasons and still warm and beautiful.

Make sure you go to the 7 (there's actually more) pools on the road to Hana. And bring your camera. You could get enough tropical island photo stock for yourself to last a while.
