http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/1…Now, I'm a Christian, so I hope I don't get bashed for an opposing opinion, but this is just funny.

Reminds me of that scene in Dogma when they're announcing Buddy Jesus or whatever his name was.

Has anyone else said "Touchdown Jesus!" in that old 70s NFL voice?
- Nairn0

"You shall not make for yourself a graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow down to them or serve them"
- Nairn0
Gee Dobs, you'll be asking them to turn the other cheek or.. forgive even. God forbid.

not to stick up for this thing. i find it more than slightly strange myself.
But, i believe the emphasis of the verse below is on the not bowing down and serving the thing (as far as I know people aren't doing this). The verse is also prohibiting the creation of an idol. I don't think this qualifies. The statue points attention to Jesus, who is the attention of worship.
However there are some strict conservative protestants out there would agree with you there dobs. They protest the making of any images of Jesus or the even the cross. So, you are not alone in your interpretation mr. dobs. I just never knew you were so conservative.

I'm not a religious conservative, I just think religious people are creeps.

Some congregants say the statue keeps watch over a section of freeway that was once among the most dangerous in Ohio. Twelve people died along that 15-mile stretch of I-75 in the two years before the image was erected, eight of them killed after cars jumped the median into oncoming traffic. Since the statue went up more than two years ago, there have been no such crossover deaths.
"Can't too much go wrong next to a big statue of Jesus," said one member of the church, James Nelms, 23.
--------------------What a bunch of fucking freaks.

i personally find this a bit creepy, but i am also religious. i understand how a lot of 'christians' can come across as creepy, but saying all religious folk are creepy is a bit... i don't know - prejudice?
- JazX0
are people gonna paint that statue, like they do in college campus'?
