DW8 vs BBEdit

I stopped using DW in about 2002/3 because it was so damn slow and buggy.
I buffed up my handcoding skills and began to use only BBEdit for HTML production.
It has been great, and I found being closer to the code actually improved my understanding of HTML & CSS and allowed me to embrace web-standards, pick up PHP skills, etc.
But now I'm tempted to use DW again as it is part of my Studio package. Problem is that it so cluttered and overbearing that it is slowing me down.
Anyone else experience the same kind of problem?
Is it worth sticking with DW8 if I can handcode perfectly well? I mean, what would the benefit be?

im stubborn. i love hand coding.
and i will always despise DW.bbedit is my jam.
DW has a habit of making the most retarded code every for even the most simple cut & dry functions.
maybe im to picky

I had a simular problem. It would take my three times as long to figure out something in DW that I can simply do by hand.
I know more now but find it bloated.
Since I get by without it- I do not worry about it.

Yes, I agree 100%, K.
But the thing is the the new DW8 seems much improved from what I've seen - hence the dilemma.

if u can hand code well stop using it. I use pspad, great editing tool.

Yeah, you're right. My thoughts exactly.

yeah i have a serious DW learning curve.. plus i spend as much time CLEANING the friggin code up after
getting paid by the hour = i dont care how long it takes me to code something
- KILLputer0
What do you need it for? Is there something you think can speed up your development? Are you working with Code Fusion or other server side languages? Are you updating large amounts of content?
If you can not find a use for it, and can code well without it... forget about it.
I am sure DW pros can do fancy things with it, but if you find no benefit from waht you already do... then...

until they incorporate some sort of artificial mind reading intelligence into DW it will stll be making coding decisions for me that i dont friggin want. and pissing me off.

why not use DW code view - utilize other tools but keep the hand code rollin' (easy to flip back and forth between style sheets and xhtml pages)
thats what I do, anyway.
but if it ain broke - why fix it?

I use BBEdit instead as DW is a bloated piece of crap on my Mac. The only thing I like about DW is being able to manage all your sites and FTP in one app.
Does BBEdit have some FTP functionality. I've never tried to use it.

Well, thats the thing 'Puter.
It would only be productivity enhancements that would lure me to use it again - to save time - but I'm not seeing it and still find pure handcoding faster (and more satisying too I suppose).
I was wondering if anyone would say - hell yeah, DW8 is worth dumping your texteditor for because of blah, blah, blah.

Yes, seed. BBEdit does have FTP - but I haven't used it either. I'm a (very happy) Transmit user.

(Nov 9 05, 20:33)Of course they do.
Look in your FILE menu

i am also too lazy to use bbedit's ftp features. i like to remain 1 lvl removed from live code anyways
- KILLputer0
You can add as many connections as you need and upload your file with a simple save command... no reason to drag and drop to Transmit.

I'll have to look into it, 'Puter...

Yeah check it out... version 8 can do alot of helpful crazy shit. I find something new every week. One day I might actually read the documentation. I probably use 20% of the power of BBEdit

Oh well...
...see you later, DW8
(quits DW8)
(launches BBEdit)

Are you GREP savvy?
I use the amazing "search and replace" all the time, but I haven't quite cottoned onto GREP yet.
- kerus0
if you learn how to use BBE's markup dropdown you can save a lot of time without getting random/wacky DW results
