I talked to this guy in Canada before who was doing matte lamination finish. The cards were so smooth. They felt like they had a wax coating on them that made you not want to put them down.

3 or 4
My business cards are very similar, but with our logo (other company than MBR).
It's the logo on the front, info on the back. It's been very well received.
We had them printed at 4x6 on statin - everyone comments on them. They do screw up and I've sent cards back twice now, but the satin is nicer than anything I've seen and it's cheap.
Our MBR cards are almost the same - logo on front, info on back, but they are white with light blue logo.

usually im all for saving money but having to send crap back aint worth it. id rather just call a favor in with one of our vendors, maybe pay more for offset, than deal with that

That sucks that they have good services but can't cut their work properly. I'm sure they realize there is a problem.
I might end up doing two versions, btw. One for design and one for photography.

i didnt read the entire thread, but i like #3. phone number is a must! for your title, why not just say:
Designer / Developer / Photographer
(you name it, i do it!)hehe...jokin in (). I can totally imagine it on a satin finish, maybe even add some design and print it with the uv coat. or for your signature and other text, use metalic silver! that would be pretty swanky.

yeah it really would be a sin to not use even just a slightly metallic ink. then again custom mix = custom price

custom ink does not always = custom price. talk to a printer and see what special ink they have on their shelves left over from other yobs. same goes with paper.

I think they're all great designs, it reminds me a little of my friend's new site cover-page, http://www.meganshort.com
My preference is number 4, it makes effective use of both sides of the card, and the info has who you are and what you do on one side, and how to contact you on the other. slick.

They look good, but I am wondering about the backside of business card - not quite so easy to jot something on the back and give to someone. That's why I'm gonna stick with white.
White pen maybe :p

i think the examples you are showing are variations on a theme. My only comment is that it really riles me to see the "@" symbol not baseline tracked so it sits better and doesn't poke up at the top give it -1.75pt or something.

I'll work on the @ symbol. I just typed it out in Illustrator quickly.
I will have to bug a printer to get more technical details on the ink. If it's not metallic I'm not even sure if I would need spot colors or just percentages of K.
Thanks for the tip on asking for left over stock, etc. Starting a relationship with a good printer sounds key to getting up to speed on the print process as well as getting good deals. Thanks.

I never though of this before, is it a standard to have the 'a' in the @ symbol sitting on the baseline or is it just a personal preference?
