Do you have a contract if not no notice required, but it is poilte to give one months notice.
If you do have a contract read it and you will find out.

Will have to read it but i havent signed the contract that they gave me i just have entered a verbal contract by excepting the job so wondered if there was a minim period you have to do.
cheers for that

if you didn't sign any contracts yr not bound by them. up to you how much notice then
- Bottlerocket0
Actually, you are bound by them. By virtue of the fact that you took the job, have been working there for a while means that an agreement has been entered into. The flipside to this is protection you would get if they sacked you and gave you no notice, etc just because you hadn't signed your contract yet.

verbal contracts aren't worth the paper they're not written on. Give 'em a month if you like them, 2 weeks if not...

Where are you? In the UK if you have worked for them for under 2 years whether you signed a contract or not you can give 1 weeks notice. Contracts for some reason are not a legal document!! wierd I know, but I did look into this a while back.

Don't slam the door, give them a month so they have time to find a new one.
It's always good to leave a place with a smile!

listen to designerror, it's nice to be nice and burned bridges do no-one any good.

if you are in the uk I think legally if you have been contracting somewhere for over 6 months they 'should' then employ you fulltime.
just a side note to the discussion..Are you contracting or are you paye?
- pixelchef0
in the uk and full time!
thanks guys i will probably give more than two weeks but cant give a month thats all need to start at the new place.
thanks again feel better

it's a good post, actually, i hire and fire people quite often so i'm quite up to speed on what is general etiquette when it comes to this procedure. if i was your boss kid, i may impose a slight sanction on what you may or may not do in the last few weeks of your tenure. if it's only verbal, i'd play fucking hardball with ya! saying that i was hauled over hot coals for doing this to a junior marketeer (chick-22??)- the funny thing is, i ended up poking her AND her mate on the night of her leaving do! she'd been engaged for a month before that to this guy that run a stationery suppliers. i cancelled his contract, got a new crowd in, and that worry put his old man in hospital...AND lets just say his bird will be quite well 'versed' on some pritty filthy shit for her wedding night after michael 'crafty' carver had his wicked way with her! hahaha. bosses privileges, lov 'em! daft eh? ps. bought a new leather jacket last night!! cheap actually-£600! wages day today though and i'm uptown tonite. 'don't it make ya feeeel gooooood!
- Bottlerocket0
LOL You're a fucking champ carver!
- carver0
thanks
- kelpie0
£600?! you fucking pleb mikey.
- Bottlerocket0
Yeah I was thinking £600 sounded a bit cheap..but really didn't want to mention it. If it's not hand finished calf leather and feels like a 19 year old virgin snatch, then it's not worth getting.

you're bound by the written contract all the same in all likelyhood. By accepting your wages every month you show acceptance with it.
I'd be most surprised if that's not the case.
*applies in the uk.

(Oct 28 05, 04:05)I'd expect more from the guy, frankly, I'm starting to doubt Mr Carvers credentials. A prop forward short of a full scrum, I'd wager.
