total blanket statement: "If you think Apple or any company cares about anything except the stock price, you're deluded."
i promise you that the rosa parks memorial on apple.com is not driving up the stock price.

The rosa parks ad is not directly driving up the stock price, but I bet it made about a million people warm and fuzzy about Apple.

mrdobolina,

what a moronic statement. with that said, apple's stock is down $1.27 http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=aap…

If it was just to remind you what SHE did...why is there an Apple logo on the ad? Like someone is NOT going to see the apple ad....wouldn't it be better for someone to see the ad and think...wow Rosa parks was a great pioneer in the fight for equal rights....rather than....wow (apple) rosa (apple) parks (apple)...they might as well put a footnote at the bottom "apple totally loves Rosa Parks...you know that right?"

joec, as if I was saying that the rerun of the ad made their stock jump up instantly. I love your logic.

it's not about how many people you know. it's not about loot. it's about statistics. statistically, those black folks with loot that you claim to know have a much better chance of being stopped by cops for absolutely no reason than the poor white people you know. this is a fact. it's about that. it's about pulling your head out of your ass and realizing that just because some of your friends have some loot, doesn't mean that the world is all fine and dandy. jesus.

its the same logic saying apple is capitalizing off of the death of an american legend.
they are merely trying to do something nice and people are picking it apart, trying to turn it into something it ISNT.
what if microsoft did the same thing? do you think there would be as many naysayers?
jeeeez!!!
lets all smoke a joint.

My buddy just reminded me Apple did the same thing when Jim Henson (Muppets creator) died. They put the old poster of him on their website.
I can't imagine they had a bunch of pissed off people.

//what if old english 800 did an ad with her in it? Would that be cool?
I'm kidding!
- IRNlun60
yeah right. like apple's going to run an add without their branding...
this is capitalism man, get used to it. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.think different = rosa parks
pretty brilliant campaign if you ask me...whether it's ethical is a whole other story but they did own rights to the photo.
- pocho0
BTW...did anyone actually click on the image on the homepage?
Does the next page make any difference in right vs wrong?
- mrdobolina0
the fact that they own the rights to that photo is pretty fucking disturbing, honestly.

Jim Henson made puppets.
If apple wanted to honour Rosa Park's death, then cool, a national print campaign with an image and some text explaining what she did to people who didn't know, with NO LOGOS or fuckin' taglines. The minute they stick them on they're saying this is an ad for our product. Wouldn't you object to an image of a srebrenica survivor used in a timberland ad? 'This guy's tough and resourceful and so are our boots dude'...

good point pocho.Obviously people can't see eye to eye on this thing, but hey, that's what these forums are for. Personally, I wouldn't buy a product just because they use some historical figure in their advertising. Advertising in general just doesn't sway me that easily. After 31 years of existence on this polluted rock, I pretty much know what I like, and it isn't necessarily the most advertised or well marketed product on the market.
On the other hand, I think designbum makes a lot of sense not so much that Apple is targeting disposable income whites, but most likely Apple's main consumer is that demographic. I could be wrong, but being black and knowing quite a few black ppl (LOL at Dave Chappelle's "How Well Do You Know Black People?" skit) and white people, I'm going to have to say that out of my friends, maybe 7 of them own a Mac, and only one of them is black . I'm not stating that this is a direct reflection of financial status of that particular class, but it does raise some interesting questions in my head now.

Dobs, you voted for Bush (both times) didn't you?
- MrDinky0
how many people work in advertising?
- designaked0
Aye.
- level20
I do, that's why I appreciate the concept..
- mrdobolina0
yup designaked, you caught me. I am a bush pioneer, I have raised over a 1/4 million dollars for him. he was appointed to the great office of president by the lord almighty himself!
