lol...i love that you assume all black people are poor and all white folks are rich, apple product buying, consumer whores in your letter looking out for the oppressed black man. way to generalize.
get the fuck off your high horse...

the ad is like how everyone else has pointed out pays respect by posting her picture from the ad they used.
the ad it self is a brand campaign. brand recoqnition and association.
the Think Different series with different famous thinkers conveys the message that these people thought differently and challenged the norm and with apple, you can do it to.
i dont mind recalling their old ad but i would hope that they would just pay repesct but recall old ad with the logo on it.
poor taste.

sorry
'not recall old ad with their logo in it'

The ad says: 'think different, buy a mac'. No problem with that, I've got one, I buy stuff all the time, my problem is that HER manifestation of 'thinking differently' was risking her kneck to stand up to a social injustice. Equating an act like that with making a consumer decision is just crap, and dressing it up as some kind of homage is weak...

Anyone who thinks that Apple is doing anything but paying respect to a true national hero is just perpetuating the divide.
Give me a break. Unreal.
Is it ever good enough? You have a predominately white company truly paying genuine respect to a courageous black woman and all you can do is say that it is racist? ISN'T THIS WHAT YOU WANTED? APPLE IS BRIDGING THE GAP YOU F-ING MORONS.
Seriously, pull your heads out of your asses and wake up.
Not to mention that this is from an ad that is 10 years old....where was your rage then? Kinda convenient to stand up and say something now, isn't it?

none of the people in the old apple ads accomplished anything using a G5 and the iPod nano, so why associate the logo with them?

THANK YOU!!!!

dudes, it was their home page... they took down all of the fucking products that usually occupy their homepage to put this memorial up...
they own the copyright to the photo, so they used it.
"think different" is highly applicable to rosa parks' life.
if you weren't arguing semantics to sound like the most "down for the cause" motherfucker in the world, you might catch that this is pure homage to someone who influenced and inspired many people (probably even a few those evil marketing execs at large companies).

"Apple's primary target market, white people with disposable income..."
I think you're wrong on that one...most likely a large majority but primary target market, I disagree.
Good letter though.

So if Burger King made an ad honoring Rosa Parks and put a nice juicy whopper, large fries, and a pepsi combo meal for 4.99 in the bottom left corner...that would be okay too?

yawn

y'all act like they superimposed bill gate's face on the mean old white dude's face and the copy read "switch"...

why are people so mean

Cmon. It is advertising. It was advertising then and they got a bit more mileage out of it because she died. If you think Apple or any company cares about anything except the stock price, you're deluded.

Remember their 1984 ad? Their whole concept was to break out of the mold, just as Rosa Parks did. I take it more as a reminder of what SHE did, not to go and buy Apple product. Would you agree that Apple has started their own revolution? Look at it more as a parallel and watch their 1984 commercial again..

look at the brand loyalty in action...

good comments all around.. some people seem unreasonably angry, which i think reflects on them more than anything else.
in response to the comment some people had about feeling insulted when it came to discussing race and poverty, i can only say that if you tend to think that there is absolutely no connection between race and poverty, you are living in a bubble. the only thing you can do is try to become more conscious of it when it does manifest.

i know plenty of black folks with loot and even apple products... (must be all those helpful letters you're writing) -- i also know a ton of poor white people. and i'm not angry, i just swear a lot.
