I was listening to an interesting podcast the other day, discussing the possibility of a US raid to take out Iran's nuclear facilities. The guy said something that perked my interest, to whit I'll paraphrase:

"Consider IF the US doesn't take out Iran's nuclear facilities, it becomes increasingly likely that Israel will. If Israel does take out Iran's facilities their attack will NOT take out Iran's secondary strike and response resources (missile sites, anti-ship missiles, etc. and so on...) which a US led attack would surely do, seeking to provide force protection for it's aircraft carrier and attendant fleets in the Straits of Hormuz and elsewhere in the region. Furthermore, just the very fact that Israel would be "allowed" to fly it's planes over US airspace in Iraq to get to Iran would be provocation enough for the Iranians to include the US in any retailitory actions. If Israel bombs Iran, which good money is on, expect to lose a US carrier and a large part of the US army currently in southern Iraq."

I cuoldn't argue with the guys point. Scary as hell.
