I sent 200 resumes to all agencies in this city (Milan) and one of them answered me, had interview, got Job.
This job isn't bad, we have quite bad clients, but my workteam is good.
It's a starting point. I'm planning to go abroad in maximum a year.
And now i'm going to take the train for the Italian countryside.

went to school, dropped out, taught myself through books, internet, and experimenting, already worked in the music industry so started hounding for design work, got plenty, very low pay at first, now it pays well- work for myself and have a few freelanced based employees..

I love france and italy but i'm too paranoid that i'd get bored if i lived there.
i love my job too but wish i could work less but still get paid enough so i could spend more time on music. i want to make music. good music. music that moves hearts and arses as only the arrogant strut of a dirty bassline can.

My sisters husband helped me get an interview for this job I've got now. I like it for the most part but kind of frustrated on a project I'm working on right now but seems to be the norm lately.
Basically the majority of my team which should be in the marketing department have no care for current web standards and continue to build sites with multiple tables within tables and image spacers... just basically poor markup and they feel we should develop solely for IE...uuugggg....
It pays well so I'm sticking around for a few more months but starting the search for something new soon.

How did you end up in your job? Are you happy, if not what else would you rather be doing?

(Oct 14 05, 07:39)funny you should ask.
i was freelancing and everything was going well, but i had no insurance and no 401k. thinking of my future (ie, with my future wife, future kids) so i looked around for a corporate job with great benefits.
am i happy? there are days. the problem lies with the other designer here who for the past 2 years has failed to give a damn. he's pretty much just put in the bare minimum effort to get by each day and said yes to every cockamaeme scheme the company has come up with. his reasoning is 'i'm just working for a paycheck, so i'm just here to be a yes man' sorry, i can't do that. luckily/unluckily he just put in his two weeks. i'm fucked but in a way i could use this to help get this place back on its feet.
i give it 6 months. if they don't listen i quit.
what would i rather be doing? open a personal training studio with my fiance' and train people all day. i'd be the companies creative full time and trainer part time. we'd employ only persons with a degree and background in health and nutrition. we would train people for shows, train athletes for competition or just normal people for everyday life.
that being said. in the next week or so when i get the specs for the job here, i may post them if anyone is interested in working with 'the kona'.
cheers.

in a nutshell:
the company i worked for previously was restructuring in a way that wasn't really great for me. i sent out 2 resumes and got this current job (for an amazing company). after about 2 months they changed my job title and duties from design and light dev. to .net dev, which i had told them i had no experience with.
they said they'd train me but didn't yet still sent robust .net projects my way. after trying to get some training (and getting none) so i could do said projects, and getting slammed with new ones, i decided to give notice. nov 11th is my last day here.
i'd love to stay but they are being unreasonable, and i'm tired of being thrown under the bus. i've learned some .net so it's not a total loss.

I ended up becoming a lancer by quitting my FT job. I'm happy making a shitload of loot and working from home but I'd rather be a pornstar bangin a new bitch everyday. Or I'd like to be a professional ganja smoker, if thats even a real job.

Basically the same story as most here. I am doing the corporate gig while I put my wife through school. As soon as she graduates, I out Dilbert world behind me once and for all.
Basically happy - never really challenged though.

k0na, I just looked at your site. Do you have a moat around your house?
- todelete__20
sure do seed. two of them. all the blood and sperm i've been selling has really paid off.
p.s. your site is refreshing. very nice.
- seed0
refreshing, wow thanks.
You should be proud of all you've achieved coming from your humble upbringing of being raised by wolves.

kOna, make sure you hit me up when you get that gym open. I'm there.

The owner of the design firm I started at sucked so bad I figured if he can do it so can I, so I started my own studio.

my job found me. and i like it. i'd just like a little bit more time to surf and fuck around with motion graphics. but other than that, can't complain.

The place I am currently working at is a relaxed environment. No one pays attention to what I do and I see my manager about 5 minutes a month. It pays well and has great benefits. I was supposed to be doing a lot of commercial sites but I have been put on a huge 2 year internal project. The only benefit is that I have gotten much deeper into usability and am planning a huge User Centered UI design process for this and other applications. That being said a lot of times it is boring as hell. If I don't start getting more interesting work to do I am going to have to steal Mr Dinkys portfolio to have something to show.
It is also too far from my house.
I would rather work for myself or somewhere that does more creative commercial work. I would like to do print work also.

I work for 2 newspapers and a magazine and do freelance at night.
it sucks, but it beats mopping up peep show booths.

eeww, worst job ever.
