Letter "H"-crossbar

Does anybody have a clue, why the crossbar in the letter "H" appears too low if it is in the exact center?
Is there an explanation for this phaenomenon?

depends on the font yo.
i think that it usually rides at, or around, the the x-height of the font, no?

it's because horizontal lines appear heavier than vertical lines of the same thickness.
