damn, heard a band this weekend with a vibes player and it sounded so cool. Anybody play one? Is it difficult to learn. I need one of these instruments. pretty affordable as well.

What, no one plays the vibes? Unbelivable?!?

your kidding right?
...vibraphone is an eclectic instrument. even for sesoned jazz bands.
dig me some milt jackson tho...

Yeah totally kidding,

i once decided to play the violin.
but the vibes is the coolest instrument there is.
maybe check Steve Nelson, and this man: Bobby Hutcherson. he played together with Eric Dolphy, Grant Green, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Sam Rivers etc etc...

My friend just bought a set - they're the most fun to play. You can just stand there pinging away and these lovely soft, warm but metallic tones warble away. I'd imagine that it's an absolute pisser to get good at, but, rather like the drums, you can have fun without being a pro.

thanks for the tip stew.
I actually found a rental for $125/month. Not bad and I could see if I like 'em enough to save up.If anybody else has some suggestions for good vibes players keep them coming.

Our drummer can play them, he says if you can play piano, you'll pick it up easily. He has an old set that he got from a salvation army. the motor is broken, but we still use it to record with, it sounds amazing.

if you can build basic chords on any instrument you can play the vibraphone.
I'd buy a Theremin before I'd buy a Vibraphone or Xylphone
