For some reason, I have a movieclip w/ an animation in it, the second frame is labeled "in". the first frame has a stop();
On the main timeline I do:
my_mc.gotoAndPlay("in"); or even my_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);...and it just sits on frame 2 instead of playing, there are no stops on the frame or anything. What am I doing wrong. I don't remember this happening in flash mx2004 or mx.

can we see the file?

if the first frame has a stop, and the second frame is labeled 'in' (MC in that frame) with NO stop it will loop back to frame 1 and stop and u will see nothing. Add a stop to frame 2..

it's a flash 8 document I can save it to mx2004, here:

no no, my MC has like 12 frames and the last frame has a stop so i'd see the animation and it would stop on the changed shape.

i think davi just hooked you up

ah..just checked ur Fla. the instance needs to be recognized first before the code gets called. just add another frame before u call the script.

ok, I did that, it works just fine now, but ok, i have one mc(my preloader), that plays completely and at the very end it has to tell my content mc to start playing... which is my real problem :)

same here in MX2004 prof.
when you put gotoAndPlay(3) in frame 2 of the_mc it works fine.
has something to do with the stop() command in frame 1. i never came across this problem before.

same stew, that's why I'm so baffled lol

at the end of ur preloader timeline add>
_parent.the_mc.gotoAndPlay(2);
stop();OR
attach clipEvent action to the mc>
on clipEvent(enterframe){if (this._currentframe == this._totalframes) _parent.the_mc.gotoAndPlay(2)
;}
There's a bunch of ways to do it. If ur still having probs, copy and paste the frames into a new Flash doc. I HAVE found bugs with Flashbefore.

well I found a workaround, I put an onEnterFrame at the begining of my next clip, and an if statement that checks if a var is set to true, which I set to true at the end of the last clip... so now it all works, thanks :)

I had a problem like that: 5 keyframes all next to each other with labels. the gotoAndPlay("label") didn't work for any of them, but when I spaced them all out - I mean giving them an extra frame each so they weren't all next to each other, it worked fine. Seemed like a random bug?
