hey, working on a site for a band.
, which was my first choice also.
after a few comps they've pretty much unanimously decided on this one:at the moment it's only going to be holding page, while they get their content together and get their album mastered (hence the lack of content).
oh, they're a "metal" band with a christian background. the only direction given was "snow", the title of the cd, and the quote; clean and light, no genre specific cliches.
would like to get some feedback/criticism from other designers.

i dont see a band especially christian metal but i do have an urge to rent a snowbaord and hang out with jevad

i dont see a band especially christian metal
version3
(Oct 4 05, 15:56)that was pretty much what they asked for.
- version30
then you've succeeded
- lvl_130
it looks pretty good. agreed with what version3 said for sure.
i think the nav could use a bit of work though. it's just kinda there and that's it.

yeah, i need to finish it up, but i'm not 100% happy with it. something's lacking but i'ved run out of fresh ideas.

mixin a lil too many kinds of fonts in there. I can't read what the red type says. Metal band + light airy snow...hmm? Tough one. That's like trying to mix the KKK with fried chicken. Design looks liek it would be for a 'sounds of the winter' CD.
I'd keep the snow and kill the trees. Add some other color in there...not so monochromatic. Give it some life...add some imagery of ppl in there if you can ,even if they are just silhouettes. Your NAV should prolly be somewhere else or just stand out a bit more, somewhere more noticeable maybe.

not very metal. i want some angry snow.
- davi-t0
angry snow! How about a lil yellow streak going across the snow. (eh hm..pee) Will throw it off a bit.

why is the header type cut off at the top?

They actually like fried chicken. It's just the blacks, jews and gays that they have a hard time getting along with.

i don't like the lighter colored box at the bottom of the page, it makes it really top heavy and awkward. the red type over the scripture is unreadable, the nav type at the top needs a better treatment- helvetica is boring. bring the grey box at the top down a bit, try using a golden ratio in your design- the measurements here all seem arbitrary.
also, by looking at this design you have no fucking clue what this band sounds like. make the site say something about them. all it's saying to me is that they like to ski and probably do a good deal of bible thumping

the colors are nice though

I think I might lose the trees. Try to represent "snow" in a different way. That reminds me of a Ray Conniff Christmas album cover.
it's not a dead ringer and I'm sure that nobody's even heard of the guy, but this cd hung out at my grandma's house forever. But that's just my opinion. I would take a more generic approach to the imagery I think, just because Christian and Metal are truly extreme opposites when you think of the genres.

this is metal??

why is the header type cut off at the top?

(Oct 4 05, 16:16)mmm, just noticed it myself. must've done something when i exported it.
thanks for the feedback sofar.
i know it's not very metal, but that's what they wanted, and they like it, so... they're pretty laidback guys, despite their music. i did do another comp with a picture of the band incl. might look at that again.
the nav will be excluded for now, but yeah, i'll look at tightening it up.
- foreign0
haha, yeah, thanks point five.
a simple photo/snow was one of their requests. i want to give themwhat they want, but realise it neds some kind of diffirent edge.
- Point50
Good luck. Keep us posted. I'm interested to see how it turns out.
- foreign0
thanks, will do.

i would push images of the band as well. id like to see them as a potential viewer of the site/someone interested in the band after seeing a show.
i agree with going with more snow, and losing the trees. the trees kill the design i think. more white, more snow, and that font for the verse is too light and airy, hard to read.
roughen the type treatment on the header a bit more, this is a metal band.
you can do all these things and still produce an image they will agree with, if done well/right.
keep us posted

thanks for that input doesnotexist.
i'm going to speak to the band again and bring up the "point of view" of target audience.
i've been asked to create the arwork for the album as well, based on these designs, so I'm rethinking the whole identity of the "package", getting the images and type stronger and tying it all together.
i'll post if i make progress over the next few days.
