The weather was simply stunning both days. Not a cloud in the sky until late in the afternoon. Still up in the 80's but there is a constant cool breeze so it's not stifling. The evenings are cool and crisp. Sunday rolled around and we thought we would give the dogs a break from each other. I took London up to Dinosaur Ridge, and we went for an hour and a half long hike. Taking that hike and walking up along the ridge really made me realise what a wonderful part of the country Colorado is. Amazing weather, fantastic outdoor opportunities...I'm quite fortunate to live here. And the more I thought about it, the more I realised what a great country America is. Sure, there is a total idiot running it, and most of the country elected said idiot, and his cabinet are as corrupt as they come, but as a whole, this is a pretty fantastic place. There is so much to see and do scattered all around the 51 states (if you count DC as a state), that often I think of just jumping in a car and driving around to experience it all.

When I first got here I let the unfortunate episodes of Nico dying and getting busted skateboarding a deserted pool cloud my judgement. I never really gave the place a chance. Nothing was good enough - nothing was right. Along with the Anti-abortionists that rant and rave at the bottom of our street for a few hours a day and my feelings towards the current political climate, I harboured deep grudges about having to be here. My therapy sessions certainly helped me see through that and as I've said several posts below, it is only recently that I have fully begun to appreciate this country. There are just as many idiots back home...and just as many political problems. We do tend to keep to ourselves a little more, and mind our own business, but I do think it's great that you have the freedom of speech to say whatever the hell you want here. Even if it's something you don't want to hear, or don't agree with, the fact that it can be said should not be taken for granted.

I sorted a lot of things out in my head on that hike, and I finally came to terms with the fact that, as much as I would love to be back in Hong Kong for good, and as much as I miss London and all my friends, America will suit me just fine for now.

seriously though, glad you're finding peace

    Good for you, dude.

Though, I'd be smarting a little if I realised I'd achieved more personal resolution on a hike with my dog than through however many therapy sessions ;)

Nice to hear it Jevad, I've my own doubts about moving to Colo. but we're thinking of going to Vail for the winter just to ease into it. Otherwise the job outlook seems pretty good out there so i've decided to just go with the flow.

I'm going to hopefully bring all my freelance client accounts with me too so that should lighten the stress some as well.

Vail for the winter would be a most delightful way to introduce yourselves back to CO!

(plus you would get to ride with me every weekend!)
