How do you go about targeting bigger clients? Im my area anyway
it seems that a freelancer would have a very difficult time getting work from large companies. I guess a 2 or 3 person shop would have a chance after getting a location and some notoriety. Maybe until then the best way is to freelance for the agencies getting the work?

How do you network into the fortune 500 scene for instance? Just by getting to know people that work in the design and web departments in as many different companies as possible?

Relationships, Relationships, Relationships.

Out source a sales person who is well connected and believes in your work. People like that can get you a meeting.

So you think it doesn't matter if you are a single freelancer or a small shop with a location?

Personally I made some good connections from my previous jobs at the agencies I worked for in Manhattan. It's easier to land bigger clients if you live in NYC from my personal experience.

I am guessing you almost have to live in a major city to get really interesting opportunities. For instance, out of all the jobs in the QBN board not one of them is in St Louis. They are almost all in the largest cities.

Seed, it is all about perception. Being smaller can be a challenge, but great work can prevail.

People seem to confuse Freelancing with Running your own business. They are seperate things all together IMO.

yer it's networking and relationships.. but once you're in make sure to deliver topquality work EVERYTIME and go out for beers now and then with the client (no stripbars).
I'm a 1 person gfx company and have been doing highprofile work for Microsoft for 2 years now. Large stick with you if you deliver topnotch work.Good luck dude

do great work and they will come.
When you get your first BIG client, bust your ass for them. I only had to look for work one time, after that is was all referrals.Oh yeah, getting a hot secretary works too.
