hi people,
i have to design a clothe label that will go on a friend's ( actualy its 2 girls ) fashion clothes they designed...I really never did this and i said it wouldnt be a problem, but i have no ideal how i could make this a nice classy but yet interesting/ standing out label...
i figured id start with finding a font, any suggestions ?
have you guys seen any nice labels ?
ideals ? anything... help :)

i've designed these before.
talk to the manufacturer and they will probably be of more help then us.
the little i know about is that, get the tag made as 'satin' - it's a nice material and soft on the skin.
if you wanna see some nice labels go to the stores.
have fun

I like 'labels' to be printed on the inside, kind of like the way Threadless do it. Allows for a lot of variety.
"i figured id start with finding a font, any suggestions?" No.

well i did look at a few labels in the stores and most of them are really simple , like just the name with a certain font. I was trying to do something that stand out a little bit more but at the same time not to much so it still has that "prestige" kinda look from those well known designer brands ( $$ )
i have a feeling im gonna end up with just the name ( CC & MEL ) with a nice font on a black background hehe... man this is harder than i thought

nice JazX,
Do you think most print shop do this?
they are supposed to take care of the printing so i wasnt worried about that, although ill make that suggestion about satin cloth

are they getting them printed or stitched?
stitched isnt that more expensive and it makes a HELL of a difference!

I know nothing about fashion designers so i just made like a huuuge compilation of known fashion designer brands( logo )
i put them all in 1 photoshop file and id say that +90% of them are just plain simple text ...

there's a term i use when you want high-end wovens.. with tight stitching and detail... really makes a difference if you specify...
but of course i can't remember now. flipping through production files. i thought it was "demasque".. but no google hits on that.
anyone know what i'm talking about?
- Louno0
hmm id like to know that

i've searchced as well and can't find a term for it to narrow things down and get pricing.

sorry i've searched through my docs but can't find a reference.. pretty sure its "demasque woven" though.
but if you've got lots of detail or want high-end quality just spec for a high stitch count.
some of the factories can do crazy ish with wovens now... heat cut to custom shapes... sealed backs... injection molds on top... etc etc.

(Sep 28 05, 12:27)MLP.. the general term to search is "woven label":

i can't recommend any local supplier because the stuff i work on is overseas production.

ahoy.. found it:
Damask – Damask has a soft, subtle texture with a very tight weave. It is suitable for high-end garments that require a refined trim finish. The loom weaves this label slower than other labels thereby giving the label a nice uniform weave. This type of weave is the perfect clothing label if you are searching for a label that will give a high-end impression. The damask label is also ideal for intricate logo or artwork. The slower loom speed allows great depth in logos, color separation, detail and clarity.
