a couple thing to think about next time you fill up:
1- last quarter, nearly every oil company posted the largest single quarter gain in profit they have ever had. (i heard a rumor that one company had the largest single-quarter profit in the recorded history of business)
2- the crude will be there when the storm is gone. so why the hell does the price go up when production is stopped for a month? So they can fix the drilling rigs? do we get to raise our salaries when we have to fix the cars that get us to work?
3- gasoline is the only petroleum product afflicted by a cost increase. in any given room in the US there are probably 40 items that use crude as a production material. no jump in price. ...huh?
4- oil from the gulf coast does not supply NEARLY 100% of the gasoline supply in this country, yet you would be hard pressed to find a gas station that does not raise it's per gallon cost.
so what's the deal? I dunno, but if i lived in northern alaska, i'd be crapping my pants right now. because all this bullshit will only glean a tiny increase in alternative fueled vehicles. but a huge increase in people willing to let oil drilling occur in a vast wilderness that they will never go , and could care less about will be much easier to find.
A similar set of circumstances occurred in the early seventies, and SHIZAM! "hey look, we found all this oil down here in south america! everything is okay now."
okay, i'll take my petrol-free soap box and shut up now.

very true, sadly nobody cares though.

its called price gouging. Its pretty aparent that is what is going on. CNN was saying that gas could go up to 5 bucks a gallon, but to make it better it will only go to 4 and people will think they got off easy. then when shit stabilizes it will go to 3 and will never go back down to 1.30 or whatever it was before all this stuff happened.

exactly mrdobs, and it's high time the worlds biggest consumer paid as much as europe ;)
no seriously, there is no need for ANY car to get under 30 mpg. Not that we are completely rid of 5 litre engines here either but people think twice when "gas" costs about $2 per LITRE!!
Keep the prices on the up and buy shares in Smart and Fiat.

i hope gas raises to 20 dollars a gallon so you motherfuckers will drive alternative fuel cars
it's the global warming from pollutants that is causing these hurricanes in the first place

in america, I used to have a bit of a stigma attached to me for not having a car, it is quickly going away.

for once I agree with scarabin
ya cock ;)

bike tubes are $5. tires are $50 each (if you're not rolling crap).
but yeah, this gas thing is getting out of hand. i ride to work and get shit for sweating balls for the first half hour, but i'm also saving about $25 a week and getting tree trunk thighs.

...as well as saving hundreds a month on insurance and car payments

This guy's gonna rule the world:

This is fucking outrageous. Rita aint even hit anywhere yet, but prices in goddamn massachusetts are already going up. Congress acts like they're looking into price gouging by oil companies, but a fat lot of nothing is gonna come off with a bunch of oilmen in office. I wouldn't mind paying $6 a gallon if i knew that like 90% went to taxes that actually did something rather than 90% going into Exxon's coffers to prop up some more corrupt 3rd world government until all their oil is pumped out.
Fuckers.
How much more will the little people take of this shit? When's the revolution gonna come?

Neil Young has turned others on to biodiesel!

Also, $50 for a tire, don't you mean a pair for $50? (I do ride a mountain bike though and street tires are a rare commodity for me tho...)

checks and balances are gone man, robber barons represent!

I know what usually helps the gas prices.
Talk about it endlessly on Newstoday. I think if we talk about it daily here something will change. IT HAS TO. Right?!? Right?
Gosh I hope so cause this is getting old.

i'm planning a move to an area where i can take trains to get around.
right now i hate that i have to use a car to get around.
- mrdobolina0
you talk about me being negative and everyday you complain about other people complaining.
was getting your GED difficult?
- garettwest0
That's what I like to hear anzelina. A person who is doing something about it... just not yet. You're planning on it someday when it's conveinient but not quite yet. Me too. I plan on someday getting a hybrid, but until then I have to keep driving the car I do cause I can't afford another car payment so until then all that I can really do is buy my gas from CITGO.
I hate that I have to drive my car too but unfortunately for a vast majority of people in the world we don't have the luxury of making it more convienient to say fuck you to the oil companies, cause pretty much we cna't afford to.
No offense to you btw anzelina. For real.
- mrdobolina0
so two weeks ago you wanted to assassinate hugo chavez and this week, you will only buy his gas.
you are a knee-jerk reactionary.
