Hello,
i am working on Illustrator CS and i am using Gaussian blur at 1.5 in my current file and it is very hard edge, but in an older file, it is very nice and smooth at 1.5.if i open up a new file and copy/paste from the smooth file it pastes in hard edged.
if i take the hard edged line into the smooth file, the line becomes smooth...is there a setting i need to change that i am missing?
see example images here:
please help and thank you.

under effects>document raster effects settings
set your resolution to 72dpi and see if that changes anything.
You'll probably notice a bit of a pick-up in screen redraw time as well.
now that you know, switch it back to 300 and just adjust the blur amount for smooth blurs. the 72 looks like hell when printed... it gets weirrd artifacts and stuff.

FYI: the guassian blur can screw up a RIP.
feather doesn't though (don't ask me why). so if you're doing print stuff, try to stick with the feather.
