"North Korea has agreed to give up all nuclear activities and rejoin the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, following a diplomatic breakthrough.
In return the US said it had no intention of attacking the North, which was also promised aid and electricity"

Korea won't be unified until the War Generation and its children are dead and gone.

even then, it'll take some time for the brainwashing to wear off

north korea exists becuse the us didn't want to draw china into the war or use nukes?
macarthur seemed to invite both? ...he was getting alittle looney in his old age as well...
anyway, this 'diplomacy' is far better than the name calling betwee the us and nprk over the last few years...
if the iaea has free access, i dont any clandestine programs will be going on. ...hope fully nprk won't be able to sell technology, that seemed to be the real danger all along...

china was already in the war. macarthur wanted to bomb the chinese border to stop troop movement from china. macarthur did drive the communist to the edge of chinese border than the chinese got involved.
also clinton had better diplomacy than bush with nkorea. when bush came in to power, they cut off the aid and cut off the talks with them. they also told skorean prez to take a hike on korean peace.
its only when bush realized that the amount of troop needed to fight a korean war would be too costly. also now that US can not fight a two front war, let alone hurricane rescue

Wow... good news!
Next thing now is for North Korea to allow their citizens to watch international soccer matches on TV.
Last I heard they had a ban on international soccer matches.... which I don't get...

yea, but not an openly delcared war with the states. ...that could have gotten messy?
i suppose the powers that be in the us wanted southest asia to be similar to europe. half free, half commie. ...seems to have been a good idea, as we avioded any nuclear exchanges in the cold war.
maybe, i'd feel diffirent bout the whole thing if i was korean, esp if i was living in the nprk.
