word to all NT'ers that rapped with me.
my recap...
Charlie White - a very very very insane man. would like to lock him in a kennel in my backyard for a few months.
Paul Pope - I collect a ton of comics and I always loved THB and it was amazing to finally meet him and watch him present his work. his best off stage quote to me was... " I love my personal work the most... but I'll also be showing the work I have to do to pay the bills... and that's currently drawing batman."
I love chuck's work... loved the uncomfortable... first time speaking... energy. I just wished he would have showed more work as he talked. next time chuck, next time.
Insert Silence - james and Amit are always amazing to watch -- but do yourself a huge favor... never ask James about Female Dolphin Vaginas.
Paul is drawing me some images, I'll scan them as soon as I get them back.
:)
I could comment on all the speakers but this is running a bit long - and I leave for others to chip in.

Charlie Whites breakdown of L.A. into drug sub-categories was inspiring.
Paul Pope can draw killer plain and simple.
Yeah Chuck shoulda shown some more work, but I hung and talke with Chuck a lot for the 3 days and the kid is really humble and generally cool. Oh and his speech although stumbling did have some good stuff in it.
Visionaire has always been top notch, but the spreads and the video and the end of their speech was very inspiring.
Insert Silence-Like I said in my post earlier their programs that turned drawings into 3d objects and sketches into music was simply mind blowing.
The Orphanage also had good nuggets of information in their speech and showed some nice things.
mine's long too so I'm out.
I'll post pictures tommorrow when I get the film back

semi-permanent sounds cool and all with designers talking about, well, design... but the real question is, did any women ever show up at the event?

I need to go to a conference someday : (

I noted some foxy ladies in attendance; however, there was a much higher saturation at the afterparty...
Just out of curiosity: does semi-permanent ever work by theme or small group sessions? I did enjoy the lecture forum; but I found that I missed the presence of smaller dialog, even if just amongst participants.
Indeed, the burden of this is really on myself to organize little tea parties, or does anyone have a general tip or reference for me in this direction?

I agree.
Although it was great to hear from all the speakers I wish there had been more interaction between the crowd and the speakers and even more conversation within the audience either at the conference or at the parties. The music was way too loud, as it should be, to have a meaningful conversation.
I was lucky to go with a great group of friends but I only spoke to a few other designers while I was there... I really wish I had done more networking.
Maybe next year they’ll consider doing more Q&A or have some more communal settings.
