Best movie compression

  I need to export a Quicktime movie for the web. It's currently 2m20s long and about 86MB.

  Are there any standard settings that will cut the file size right down without losing too much quality? Are there any video formats that are more accessible by a wide range of platforms (MP4, MOV, AVI, etc.)?

  I'm a bit of a video novice so any help appreciated.
