Now now we can have even more jackasses like Mr. West turning a telethon into a personal soap box.

Meh, Kanye was right.
- rockonski0
at least he has something to say bucky, wanker
- rockonski0
maybe the truth will seep into your ears for once? maybe some one will say something really amazing? and maybe it'll take america a turn for the better?
no censorship = good
- Buckyball20
Regardless of his views or yours, the goal of a "telethon" is to help raise awareness and money for victims of this great disaster.
Not to raise awareness of how much you are disappointed at the current administration.

controversy = more viewers

People should be afraid to make a live televised event and this is exactly why. I think it is great.

Shouldn't the name be changed from "Hurricane Katrina Telathon" to "The Blame Game" or possibly "Racecard"
- zanetate0
Maybe this is just me but I don't think it's the "blame game" when somebody screws up and deserves to be blamed. That's just accountability. And it's not the "racecard" when there's actually racism involved.
... back to work...

are you playing the accursed "blame game" card, BB

The real blame lies with the local and state officials. Evacuation plans do not start at the federal level and go down. So blaming Bush is pointless.
Here is an excerpt from the State of Louisiana Emergency Operations Plan:
The evacuation plan states that "Local transportation resources should be marshaled and public transportation plans implemented as needed. Announce the location of staging areas for people who need transportation. Public transportation will concentrate on moving people from the staging areas to safety in host parishes with priority given to people with special needs." It also says that the Governor will "Mobilize State transportation resources to aid in the evacuation of people who have mobility and/or health problems. Deploy to support risk area parishes."
It certainly looks like it was the responsibility of the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans to make sure that people, and that includes poor people, were evacuated.

blame game usually called by those to blame

Although I will admit, live TV can be quite entertaining as well

Awesome. I love live TV.
* And by the way, the more you talk about the "blame game" the more the strategy works and distracts form the real woerd that should be bandied about - "responsibility".
Or as Monty Python put it in "The Holy Grail", "Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who..."

This is a piece copied from some blog that someone emailed to me:
In August of 1969 when Cat-5 Hurricane Camille hit roughly the same area as Katrina, President Nixon had already readied the National Guard and
ordered all Gulf rescue vessels and equipment from Tampa and Houston to follow the Hurricane in. There were over 1,000 regular military with two dozen helicopters to assist the Coast Guard and National Guard within hours after the skies cleared.

See, Nixon, the bastard that he was at least was an adult running things. God, to think Bush makes me miss Nixon is scary. ( And I was like 3 when Nixon was in office.)

state and local officials fucked up from the beginning.
we've all seen the pictures of the thousands of buses stranded in water. why didn't the mayor or governor use them earlier?
why in new orleans, a city SURROUNDED by water, only has 3 police boats? 2 of which reportedly didn't run.
what is the use of having mayors, councilmen, governors and such if you blame one guy (the president). how many thousands of counties and cities are there in the u.s.? he's supposed to monitor them all like fucking superman? fuck dat.
the mayor fucked up, now he's making an ass out of himself dropping f-bomb and g.d. ing everyone else on tv. fuck that guy.
also. nbc and fox news reported days ago that they went into the hotel next to the superdome 3 days after the hurricane. what did they find? they saw that all the evacuees going to the superdome looted and trashed the hotel. the first four floors had all the alcohol removed and stolen, they tried to break open the atm machine to steal money, they smeared their shit on the walls of the hotel and took whatever wasn't bolted down. the best part. the kitchen wasn't touched. there was still food in all of the refrigerators and freezers and all the water was left alone. wtf?
yeah. blame bush. i hate the guy as much as you but blame the real jackasses who fucked up, dropped the ball, and stole booze instead of food and water.
when oprah went inside the superdome after hearing reports of all this garbage and bodies... what was all the garbage? cases and cases of empty beer cans and liquer bottles. yeah.
blame bush.

Wow. Newt Gingrinch as quoted in the Washington Post:
"For the last week the federal government and its state and local counterparts have consistently been behind the curve," he wrote fellow Republicans this week. "The American people overwhelmingly know that the current situation is totally unacceptable," and for that reason, "it is a mistake to get trapped into defending the systems and processes which clearly failed." He observes in another memo, "While the destruction was unprecedented, it was entirely predictable."
Newt I hate Democrats Gingrich? Newt Shut Down the Governemt Gingrich? Newt It's all about values Gingrich?
So basically he's saying that the whole values thing is over and the new "blame game" of government competency is about to start and it;'s time for the Republicans to shift gears? Gee, isn't that what the democrats have been saying for five years now?
*curses into coffee...

also, i can bet money on someone posting how bush took funds from the leeve to fund the war. i got it. i saw that. but how many millions upon billions does the gambling industry rake in each year in n.o.? how many millions upon billions does marde gras and other events rake in? all this money the mayor had for the city so it doesn't matter who took what funding away, the leeves have been fucked for 40 years since the category 5 years ago and somehow it's bush's fault. in 40 years at a minimum that's 10 presidents at 4 years per president.
yeah. blame bush.
he's a dickhead but he's not to blame.
and the governor lady who said 'i'd like to punch bush in the face' fuck her. hey governor, get the poeple out of your own state for fucks sake. you somehow did.
