She got fired? Or she got layed off? I've been layed off before without reason...it sucks, obviously. But usually it turns into a good thing. I got an awesome job after waiting and recovering from that lay off for more than a year.

"Shit man... you're in America, tell her to sue for wrongful dismissal."
That's exactly what I told her.

..pfft. Youd have more luck in the UK, or any other 'civilised' country, where there is at least some power afforded to workers..
In the US, it seems that an employer can just about do anything to an employee and theres very little redress..

Careful Shane or aka PIXELRANGER. Everyone knows at 2A and who quit that no one from that company was layed off in over a year.

(Sep 9 05, 08:34)Unfortunately the great state of Colorado is an "at will employment" state - which means your employment can be terminated at any time - without reason. But no company likes a lawsuit.
That sucks Nic.

"which means your employment can be terminated at any time - without reason"
wtf?!
How is that even legal?

on the bright side, maybe this will make your move to SF easier

Sounds like somebody is playing the blame game.

...Unless she had a contract that needs to be honored, technically the employer has all the rights... as long as all the correct papers were signed. But there are always ways to get what you want.

Same here in AZ. It is considered a "right-to-work" state. You can be "terminated" for no reason.
That's why a lot of businesses move to AZ. So, they can have massive layoffs when their market-shares are down. They answer to wall street not emplotees. It suck the big donkey wang but it seems to be the way everywhere is headed.

poor chick...my boss is trying to throw me under the bus AGAIN. he tried once before regarding a project but i defended myself well and politely, but now he is manufacturing sh•t. totally winding up to fire me.
he's also a sexist, bigoted old dude who is scared of .net and all things new. if he pushes me, i'm taking him down with me.

American Beauty style take down or Fight Club style take down?

But on the flipside you can quit for no reason or explanation and you don't have to give a lengthy notice. When you're working a shitty job this is a nice feature.

this "work-at-will" state crap is really tough...they really CAN fire you for no reason.
if you have a breach of contract (which i do) or other serious ethical issues, you can sue. otherwise you're pretty much s.o.l.

Nice job on the whole "contract" thing sputnik - that is the only way you get yer money.
