Someone at work today got fired, apparetly for 'performance issues', although she was never given verbal or written warnings and the client that was supposed to be having the problems with her have only ever given rave reviews of her.
This totally fucking sucks. She was really well liked and I think it's fucking rotten to do something like this to someone.
Let's just say my image of the company has been turned a total 180.

guess that shows where the company loyalty lies.
be better off freelancing with a contract. brutal man

I'm sick of working for people! You can't trust anyone these days...

Are you sure you know all the details? sounds like something else was going down...
If not, she should file for unfair dismissal.

Being 'really nice' sometimes isnt enough to hold down a role. I'm sure theres more to it though...?

was her design kung fu strong?

As we've all learned from all of the "drama" earlier in the week, you will never know the whole story behind this employee and why she was let go. Things may have seemed rosy on the surface but maybe she was secretly stealing paperclips or something.
- toe_knee0
or maybe she insisted her name always be writen in all caps

or aLtErNaTiNg CaPs*
*I've never typed like that before and I have to say, it was extremely annoying.

Oh I don't know the details - but I'd like to think I know her and I believe what she told me. There are *always* two sides.
For obvious reasons I can't really go into much detail here so it's going to sound a little one-sided - but to offer someone a weeks severance pay and not pay them for owed holiday - that fucken stinks.
She wasn't design - she was copy. We recently replaced the head of copy (leaving to have baby), with this dumb FUCK of a blonde, in every sense of the word, and I don't think they saw eye to eye on things. This new girl is not very well liked at all in the office, or by clients. She's like Forrest Gump without the redeaming qualities or cute little quirks.
Anyway I'm rambling...I just think there are ulterior motives and that they weren't truthful with her...and that doesn't sit well with me...

Maybe she had really bad dental hygene like brits have.

It's never fun to see someone you like leave whether the circumstances are good or bad.
- jevad0
I think it cuts that much more because I have been in her shoes...many years ago...so I know how dumbstruck she must feel and how scared and freaked out and overwhelmed it must be for her right now...for it to have come out of the blue the way it did.
- PIXELRANGER0
Jevad..FYI..the dental hygene joke was for toe_knee.
I should have gone a different direction with it. How about this.
"Maybe she's one of those people who tries to spell their names phonetically to be cool and different."
- jevad0
well now, I could understand that being an issue if it had been the case...

Shit man... you're in America, tell her to sue for wrongful dismissal.
When I worked for a studio back in Toronto every person that was fired turned around and sued for wrongful dismissal and won.

i realized a while back that there's no such thing as job security. we are replacable at any time even though you are amazing and really good at what you do. there's always someone to take on your job. either they do it or better may not matter much to many of the companies.
that's pretty much why i am an independent contractor.
