my favorite "sexy" restaurant (translation; extremely romantic italian restaurant for a 2nd or 3rd date..)
closed down.it was perfect. tiny, dim lights, very hidden gem in midtown, perfect music, very like italian sicilian feeling. not americanized.
date is 8:30pm.....i desperately need a replacement "sexy restaurant" for the evening. preferably italian --- same feel.
newstoday i love you

There's a place called Cafe Espanol at 172 Bleeker Street. It's a bit pricy but the seafood is amazing and the ambiance is what you described.
Or 3 of Cups on 1st Ave and 5th Street. Amazing Italian and Brick Oven pizzas. The foccacia bread is unbelievable too. Great prices, ambiance, everything.
Or Sequoia in the South Street Seaport with a view of the bridges.

In the city, I like to go to the restaurants in Korea town on 32nd street between 5th ave and broadway. Gum Gan Sang is nice restaurante.

right on, vp. i live 4 blocks from that street.

there's a nice little place at 2nd + 3rd st (i think, or close by) - it's on the northwest corner of whatever intersection, and they usually have it all opened up to the street, so it's a good people watching place if you get a table close to the windows.
food is decent, and the lights are always down low.

i eat at Cucina di Pesce all the time. these days, we get a free glass of sambuca.
