Hi Bullit
If you can open them in windows media player you should be able to look at some kind of movie summery - i.e. pixel size, movie length and maybe what codec it uses. Once you know what codec it is using google it & download it. Altough if you can view it in media player it must mean the codec is all ready installed on your system... good luck

I tired looking at the summary, but I dont get a codec... from what I can remember I chose a comprestion which was called somthing like video for windows

i would be totally down for helping you, but i'm on a mac, and i have trouble with AVI files myself.
but maybe you could post them and someone could download, convert and then send them back to you?

Due to limitations in the QuickTime Architecture, AVI video files containing MP3, WMA or AC3 audio tracks will not play directly in QuickTime based applications. You may experience stuttering, loss of sound, no sound or an error message.
We have written a useful application called "DivX Doctor II" which can fix these problems, and other issues QuickTime has with AVI files. You can download DivX Doctor II from http://doctor.3ivx.com/
Most AVIs will need to be 'doctored' with DivX Doctor II. The DivX Doctor II ReadMe contains more detailed instructions.

I think the codec could be WMV3?

I can email them, if anyone got the time now to have a go?

if those don't work:
try re-encoding the AVI (because sometimes they get messed up, and it just thinks it's an AVI, when it could be another format entirely)
and then try the previously posted programs to convert from AVI to MOV or whatever.

i hope this works for you
good luck!
